Leather Instrument Cover
Decided to finally re-colour the dark grey leather on the edge of the instrument binnacle behind the steering wheel which I assume has shrunk slightly over the years. Nearly every Z1 I have seen seems to suffer the same problem. Scuff Masters have produced a specific BMW Z1 1991 Dark Grey leather dy...

Hi Andy, To adjust the lights remove the rear cover and twist the white knob in the bottom right of the photo, this twists the alloy frame containing the light. It's very easy to do when the unit is sitting on your desk, less so in the dark when the unit is in the car. Regards TJS http://i148.photob...

Thanks guys. I spoke to a local long established car electrician who not only named the two after market brands fitted by dealers over the past 30 years but also suspected what my occasional cut out problems are likely to be. One of the systems has a weak terminal which needs to be soldered. Fingers...

Were alarm and immobiliser systems factory fitted or a dealer fitted option?
I think it is the latter .. I have a BMW branded fob/controller

I use an Accumate conditioner, similat product to the CTEK but with the option of switching to 6 volts for the twin MG batteries. You can get a wide range of accessories; see http://www.accumate.co.uk/ The fused connector is permanently wired to the battery, and the unit simply plugs into a socket b...

Another Hagerty client. I like this firm, they are knowledgeable, sensible when it comes to modifications and the premiums, whilst not the cheapest , are competitive. My premium this year increased to £790 for a multi classic car policy covering a 1968 MGB GT, TVR Griffith 500, Audi TT and the Z1. A...

For my mothers 60th birthday the offspring bought her one of the very last Rover Mini Cooper Sports in red with a white roof as she always regretted selling her 1964 red / white 1071cc Mini Cooper S. Its certainly a rare car in the described condition and £15k too expensive for me. At this price you would hardly dare use it, another 10k miles on the clock would probably cost you £20k in depreciation. Can you hold classic cars as investments in a SIPP ? The Z1 would be a good choice as values hav...

Charles. I have to agree that the radio reception via the screen embedded aerial is not very good. The attached link may provide an idea. It's a TVR modification to boost the radio signal. However, the concept of a copper wire to extend the aerial could work for the Z1 and should be easy to make. ht...

Ben,
What a bummer. Sounds like an expensive insurance claim.
see the attached link, ignore the car for sale, the reference to the new hood with larger rear window may point you in the right direction

Sad but true fact. After 4 years of ownership the Z1 was finally and unintentionly driven in the rain on Saturday morning.
