Re: Pirelli 225.45.16
I've had few good experiences with Pirellis - they just don't seem to last on a low use car. Either they crack, are very prone to flat-spotting or just go hard. My Z1 has 15 year old Goodyears that look like new. They get carefully inspected every year for cracks etc and are just fine. And they stil...

Re: Unwanted rumble
That is a very good thought. Had a trailer tyre blow out years ago because I ignored a slight vibration. When I checked the other 3 tyres 2 of them had waves in the tread as the tyres were starting to come apart. In my case it was a function of cheap tyres being run near their load limit. Running yo...

Tempting event. Tis warm in southern Germany that time of year though!
Is BMW holding some sort of special Z1 event or are they just hosting an organised group of visiting BMW owners who all happen to own Z1s?

Munich sounds good but IMHO only if there's some sort of official Z1-related commemoration. It's a looong way from the UK - 600 miles from Calais.

Re: Unwanted rumble
If it changes in volume/tone as you load up the suspension going left or right I would have guessed a CV joint (in the driveshafts) or a wheel bearing as opposed to the propshaft?

Re: Unwanted rumble
The propshaft has 2 universal joints which are not renewable. ie. they don't have circlips to remove the + inner piece. There is a rubber dampener at the front end between the propshaft and the gearbox output flange, and finally there is a center bearing just aft of the front end of the rear sectio...

Fab weekend it was indeed. Great roads, fun activities and the nice Z1 crowd made it very enjoyable. Big big thanks to Jamal for organising it all and special mention to Nigel for the route and guidance. Except for the access road to Max Events.

There's only one. Standard was a normal metal-bodied spin-on filter and then there's a paper element version that is more environmentally friendly. But not sure they were ever fitted in the day.

I’m glad the description on the auction site has been corrected and my comment against the mileage is no longer relevant; it was made against the original listing which looked like it was a cut and paste mixup with a previously auctioned chilli red Z1. Good luck with the auction.

And the photos in the advert for the blue one look to be very much like these - http://ipocars.com/vinfo/bmw/z1-1993.html
Setting is the same?
And for a car allegedly for sale in Germany there's no German emissions sticker in the windscreen.

Re: Ticking noise
I had intermittent horn issues last year and as a result the car failed its MOT. It turns out that on the Z1 the horn contact is a spring-loaded plunger and after 28 years the grease on the plunger was more sticky than slippery. I removed the steering wheel and lubricated the plunger and the problem...

Definitely worth a look to see what shape the pressurised hoses are in. To wait until there's a leak may require a fire extinguisher or worse. Too many classic cars have gone up in smoke due to perished fuel hoses.Green Genie wrote: ↑Sun 05 Nov, 2017 18:45 On that basis mine will be swapped out as and when they cause problems.

Re: M3 Conversion + DKG Gearbox
I can't help but think you'll have a massive challenge changing the gearbox on a Z1. The car uses a torque tube which would need to be modified. The SMG boxes are bigger so the gearbox tunnel would need to be enlarged. I'm not saying it can't be done but if you're paying someone else it will likely ...
