I'm also looking to replace my head unit (radio/stereo.....whatever  ). I've looked at some green/blue/red "boy racer" megga monsters (great for impressing the bird!), but I want something which is more subtle, in keeping with the normal BMW soft orange lighting. Anyone seen or got o...

Reckon these guys are right, doesn't take much of a job to a) run up a big bill or, b) expend a lot of your time, probably neither of these you will recoup. As Dave said, summers on its way so I would have thought now is the time to move it on

Same reason lots of cars get broken - worth more in parts than as a whole. Suppose it just proves what good value these cars actually are, when they are worth more parted out. But only if you get a good one though. Still feel sorry for the poor little sod especially as it gave you such a good top d...

Petrol smell
The last couple of times I've been out with top down, there has been a marked smell of petrol whilst stationary and on the move. There are no apparent signs of a leak, although perhaps it's vaporising before hitting the deck, hence the smell. Anyone got any ideas, or has this happened to you?

Flashing E on code reader
If the code reader flashes E, there must be an error, I assume. Could it be a PIN19 error, but not quite sure what is PIN19. Because of this we can't reset the airbag light. Off down to pub to discuss over a beer or two with RockyDave....fancy joining us , or at least give us a clue. Cheers

Smashing photos Alan. There's something about the stance of a Z3 that makes you want to photograph it, or could it be that we are bias? Matter of interest, what polish are you using? (apart from good old fashioned elbow grease).

Re: Whirring/fan noise on start up
Basic operation of the viscous coupling is that is should freewheel when cold and the fan will be dragged round slowly. When hot the coupling locks and the fan rotates in proportion to engine speed. A rolled up newspaper should stop the fan when cold. Note however that some zeds have electric fans ...

Re: Whirring/fan noise on start up
Righty, I do know that the viscous fan did have some work done to it when I bought it in Devon, perhaps its a non OEM job then?? Interestingly, when its warm, (1) the noise goes and (2) the fan is still turning but not fast, like it's on tick over revs, which I assume is what should be happening. It...

Re: Whirring/fan noise on start up
Thought that might be the case, as I have looked into so many engines now and it appears some do and some don't have a pump fitted. Just turned the ignition on without firing up and its as quiet as a mouse, however when fired up the fan is whirring away, but the noise dies down or stops when she is ...

Re: Whirring/fan noise on start up
Ok, the rain has stopped and back to my original post. Just to recap, it's been suggested that the whirring noise is coming from from the secondary air pump/smog pump on my M52 2.8, but when you look at my M52 there appears to be no pump in the usual place (front OS) just the washer bottle. It has a...

There you go, it's the black plain leather (which is textured) so not too dissimilar from the airbag plastic cover. It is also double thickened to match my M Sport 330 Tourer, which has a good feel. I'm told that the Napper leather is smooth and a dark grey...worth noting. General workmanship and st...

Re: rocking seats on Z3 1.9
I've had my seats out on a number of occasions (bushes & leather repairs) and those rear bolts can be a bit of a bugger. I found that connecting the two socket set extension bars with the universal joint at the bottom gave a shallow angle with which to pull on. It worked for me anyway.

I've now fitted a chrome gill on the Montreal Z, and I'm still not sure :puzzle: Clearly this is totally down to one's personal preference.
