Could have sworn when I did it last year a couple of days before the month end it gave you a choice of either taxing from the current month or from the coming new month. Got to do mine for May 1st, been checking daily to see when it will take payment for 1st May.

Yes washing with a natural soap soloution worked for me, used soap flakes in hot water. The belts get dirty with grime and oil from hands and this causes problems when they recoil. Quite right check for air leaks or a bad MAF, these will upset the lambda sensor. If you need a new sensor stick with known make such as Bosch or Siemens same goes for replacement MAF. Too bad it wasn't the switch, sounds like the others are correct suspecting the alarm causing them to flash.

I would check the hazard switch sounds like it might have developed an internal fault, disconnect the switch and try a known good one to see if that solves the issue.

Change the gearbox oil, check what yours takes, some use ATF, may be a label on the side of the gearbox unless its fallen off over the years.
BMW used fill for life fluid but a change is worthwhile to freshen up the box, gear changes will be smoother after a change, do it and see what you think.

Door threshold trim clips and some replacement self tappers for the sills and arch liners to replace a couple I broke when cleaning and waxoyling the sills. Also renewed insurance £141 fully comp no extras wife as named driver.

It is as the others have stated a signal amplifier, it has a 12v live feed to it so care needed when disconnecting or connecting the unit. Snap, I have one of these, got it after my alternator started to fail and had to be replaced. Ideal for monitoring the output by simply plugging it in the cig lighter socket. I see the Amazon link is over 4 quid, got mine off ebay for 1.99.

How old is the battery? If the charger failed then quite possible for the battery to die due to old age especially in this cold weather here in UK. Maybe not cold where you are so its probably down to age of battery and failed charger. The draw on the battery would be the clock and the radio memory ...

I think you may have identified the problem from what you say about the aircon never having worked. Good chance if its not been working bacteria has grown inside and is giving off the smell you experience particularly when the car itself is running hot. That sounds hopeful, check what the alternator is putting out when you get your volt meter it may have been a dodgy connection with the plug not fully home. Keep your eye on the warning light as well to see if it solved that.
