Also in answer to the child seat question, haven't ever bought one myself but when you do just make sure you check out the airbag requirements as some say to turn the airbag off on the passenger side if you fit a child seat :thumbup:

Oh and forgot to mention, I've decided to bite the bullet and give this car more muscle after the summer is out so any engine mods are out the window this summer, will only be working on cosmetics and handling. I'm on the hunt for a Chevvy LSX series engine or donor car - yep, I'm an idiot!

The rolling diameter is fine in regards to the guideline 2.5% either way - 235/40/18 front (+2.22% or +14mm) - (these tyres came with the wheels) 255/35/18 rear (+0.79% or 5mm) BUT! At higher motorway speeds the traction control is cutting in meaning that it doesn't like the difference in rolling di...

Thanks for the comments! The colour is Ferric Grey which is a BMW colour, going to find a rattle can of the same colour and redo the side gills and maybe kidney grilles too :)

Serious bad luck mate, I feel for you. On a practical note is there no way of you buying back your Z3M from the insurance co? Most offer this now, I think it might even be compulsory but don't hold me to that. I'm just going on a friend's case who got paid out for the value of their car and then end...

Thanks for the feedback fellas. Makes me a little more comfortable about trying it.

What I didn't mention is that I already have 2 x 235/40/18s with plenty of life so it's a free trial so to speak, just wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be a total misfit ;)

On the subject of lowering, am I right to think that any E36 lowering springs fit the front and any E30 lowering springs fit the rear?

Not sure if I just have dodgy front shocks which I'll check first but mine feels like it needs 30mm drop on the front but at least 40mm on the rear, if not more :)

Don't know where you are geographically, but The Ace Cafe (north London) has German car nights (BMW +merc). Never been, but they are meant to be quite good. Details on Ace Cafe website. If you don't mind lots of different makes of cars, then the Pistonheads Sunday Service meets might be worth a try...

Traction control mate - or at least I think that's what the unit is that's fouling the strut, trying to look on RealOEM.com to see if I can find the part but it's not easy to find :head:

Hi Lewy, great picture diary of all the work you carried out, super stuff! When you had the airbox off did you check the power steering reservoir for fluid level and condition? Going by the look of your oil filter I think it would be worth checking it if you haven't done so. Our 2.8's are both 1998...

I think most BMW shows really let the side down last year. Gaydon was poor and Santa Pod wasn't great either so we're steering clear this year and going for some general car meets.

There doesn't seem to be much imagination out there at the moment.

Esure were very good for me, I'm 32 and they insured my Z3 2.8 as a second car (mirrored ncb) with 4 yrs ncb fully comp for £340. They did my merc for £500 too. The 2 combined costs were cheaper than the nearest / cheapest quote on the Merc alone! Good luck with your search on the motor front! Go on...
