Hi all... Just had the camshaft and exhaust sensor replaced to cure a "starting and stalling issue when hot"...that's all ok now, car runs like a dream...but now the battery light on the dashboard flickers on and off very occasionally, just for a second or two, happened twice yesterday mor...

Just dropped of my car at the garage, and the chap said "could be the vanos"....( he hasn't looked at it yet)...I said I didn't think the 2ltr had the vanos fitted, am I right?, does a 1999 2ltr 6 have the vanos fitted or not?

I might look into getting the sotware etc...I do have a redundant laptop which would be ideal...in the mean time, the car is booked in for next Thursday, and the mechanic (who has looked after all my cars for the last 20 odd years) says he's 95% sure it will be the crank sensor breaking down.

Ok, don't think I'll try anything into the air intake, I think a trip to my local garage and plug it in to a 'puter and see what, if any, codes comes up, I can see my self wasting a lot of time poking and hoping, thanks again for the suggestions.

Ok gents, thanks for the input, think I'll try Redex in the intake 1st to see if that clears a sticky valve, and go from there.

Ok, so just drive it and see what happens over next 2-3 weeks. In this weather I am using my bike more often then not, so a couple of tanks of fuel may take longer

If your car has a Torsen LSD the old test of turning a wheel does not tell you anything - get a printout of your car's spcification frm any dealer - it's free in return for the last seven digits of the VIN code, such as LE 71381. If you mean the Vehicle Information from BMW Vin Decoder (BMWVIN.COM)...

HECK is short for Heckantrieb, which is rear-wheel-drive. Thanks...think I'm going to have to lift the rear wheels, and spin one, and see if other wheel spins the other direction, just to be sure. Suppose using LSD type oil in the diff wont make a lot of difference if it happens to be a non-LSD.......

If you've got soaked carpets you'll kill your hairdryer much before you dry them out, theres 6 inches of foam underneath! I took mine out and fully dried them with a wet vac and a week in the kitchen, was a pretty big job though since it requires the entire interior trim to be removed :shock: Hi......
