Might be worth having a read of http://www.z1z1.de/technik/technik/lenkung.html
And the Z1 has fairly slow steering (4 turns lock to lock) which doesn't help the perception of on-centre vagueness. Soft control arm bushes can also contribute to the vagueness.

Re: Road America
Very distressing are some cracks actually on both sides, both front fenders where they're bolted down, I'll try and post photos, curious if anyone else has seen this happen...Wondering if drilling a hole to stop the crack (like glass) is a good idea. This is all too common I'm afraid; the cracks st...

Given it's a space saver spare and tucked away out of UV exposure and limited to 50mph for a short distance I would be more worried that most people's spares are probably so low on pressure as to not be usable when called upon. As for the main tyres checking for signs of dry rot and shifting belts i...

The seats had either been died or recovered and weren't aging well so that put me off the car straightaway. But that's nothing to do with the RHD conversion. I was offered the chance to drive the car but as I had already lost interest I turned it down. The seats aren't swapped over so the passenger ...

Testing the throttle position sensor is a good place to start. Shamelessly nicked from elsewhere: At the bottom of the throttle housing, there is a 3-pin connector. First make sure it receives voltage. Pull the harness connector. With the ignition on, you should get 12V between the center and either...

You can always try petrol - a bit harsh but might do the trick. Leave the lid open so the offending area is horizontal and then fold part of a paper towel into a rectangle enough to cover the area, soak it it petrol and then lay it in place and leave for a few minutes. You may need to do this severa...

Re: 1989 Z1 rear disks ?
Just checking the Web and found this: Early Z1s had the same rear 258mm rotors as all e30s, while later Z1s have larger 280mm units I don't think that's correct - the Z1 has a unique rear disc not shared by any other BMW. Have a look on bmwfans.info - their version of the BMW ETK makes it easy to s...

Things go for what they are worth, otherwise sellers would not use ebay. Erm, no, I've seen too many ebay auctions that closed at silly prices because 2 or more members got caught up in willy-waving and drove the price past the new price. Ebay allows a seller to take advantage of the competitive st...
