I will try different pads first to see whether they improve the bite at all. Then I should begin looking at nicer discs :)

Yes you can, they were sold as a retrofit kit (or option) if I can remember correctly.

Well they do fold, however the folding does require some force. There is no special move, you just push them. I'm not sure whether the folding is intended for normal everyday use as I don't remember reading anything in the manual. But if you want to remove the mirror base, you need to fold it accord...

Rub'em down and use liquid weld (araldite) to join the arm to the base. You'll loose the folding action but unless you live in a city full of cul-de-sacs you would never miss it :)

The mirror bases and arms are made of pot metal, which can't be welded or joined otherwise.

You need to remove the entire mirror assembly I'm afraid, base, covers, the whole lot. But it's not hard to do at all. The mirror glass itself just pops out with a bit of careful pulling. By the way, on the subject of mirror bases, I was asking if anyone had a replacement here as I had some bubbling too. Since no-one replied I took the plunge and fixed it myself yesterday afternoon. Rubbed the base down to the bare metal with sandpaper (phew). Then applied three coats of spray primer...

I have tried PlastX. It's good but you must use it very regularly, and that means once a week, else the screen just reverts to its old condition pretty quickly.. By the way I find the dirt and dust to be the major problem rather than the scratches... I used to hate the hazy plastic screen initially,...

Here's a question: I was reading up on my 2.8 M52TU and I was surprised to see it also has a double-VANOS system! T/F?

I haven't heard anything about 2.8s popping their marbles in here so can I assume that the limited power output (almost 100Hp for 400cc less) guarantees a trouble-free life?

It is indeed a common problem. A new mirror base (unpainted) is around £125+vat.. so yes it is a costly fix unless you take the time to remove the mirror base from the door, rub it down and have it re-painted. That is a bloody good photoshop job you've done there!!! I doubt the deep dish rears will fit as snugly though... Definately get rid of the existing wheels I'd say. Tried the cable yesterday. Unfortunately it's a no. Can't return the part to BMW now either (why, BMW?) . A nice waste of £40.... Anyway regarding the FM transmitters, they're absolutely terrible, a friend of mine has one for his ipod and it sounds really poor.. You just can't beat cable for quality...

I can see a couple of scratches, a ding and a small area with some bubbling surface rust under the mirror... Also the service history includes one independent so it's not FPSH... slight kerbing on the alloys too...

Found this Called up Henry Bros, the part does exist and costs around £50 inc. VAT... Supposedly it plugs into the CD changer socket at the back of Business CD head units and allows you to input from a source such as iPod rather than the cd-changer. Each to his own when it comes to mods!!! I agree that construct for the 3rd brake light is pish- but I do like the front and rear bits.
