Re: BMW Z3 1.9 *Timewarp car* (nothing to do with me )
Can't say how cheap it is yet as it's not sold. Can't say it holds much interest for me though with that spec and its mileage, whilst low, I bet is not unique in some of these cars which are hardly used.

Re: Six fingers'job
It's not too bad a job to do if you're methodical and keep track of where things plug in. As already mentioned the actually physical removal of the console is the fiddliest but; from memory once all the screws are undone, you lift the back up then unhook it from the dash and work it off the handbrake.

Yes, it's the larger allen bolt on the front of the VANOS, if the oil is always clean it doesn't really need changing very often but work a look; you just literally unscrew it and the filter is part of the screw itself.

I'd say it's the vanos too. What oil have you used? Most S50s will do this, especially if the oil is hot and the engine has been idling for a while. I use Castrol 10/60 Edge M Series and it definintely seems quieter than anything else I've used.

The Z3M always had clear indicator headlights from 97/98 but from 4/1999 on they got chrome rings around the headlamps.
The Z3 had orange indicators but got the same chrome ringed clear indicator lamps from 2001-on. But all are interchangeable.

I would definintely recommend changing the brake pads if nothing else and get them properly bedded in before the day. You won't notice any difference between 245 and 255 IMHO - and besides they'll be 245 of one manufacturer that will be as wide as a 255 from another. The speedo in theory should under read with taller tyres as the wheels are turning slower for a give speed but the difference is so slight it won't be...

A taller tyre like the 255/40 will in theory make the speedo read slightly slower, the reality is the speedo is DEAD accurate with this size fitted. My car was within 1mpg of a GPS at all speeds well in to 3 figures.

Re: wider tyres on rims
255/40 are fine in all conditions and a popular tyre size to go for on the rear 9" rim as road tyres at 255/40 sit quite well and only slightly taller over the 255/40
The arches are big enough to take a 265/40 too but it is noticeably taller/chunky so gearing slightly altered too.

Re: wider tyres on rims
A 265/40/17 will fit on the rear rim but it will look massive and not just in width - it will look very tall too and this makes the rim look smaller relatively.
Go up to 255/40/17 max but I prefer the look of the factory 245/40.

The 3.46 crownwheel and pinion can be sought out of some old BMWs (eg E34 diffs) and fitted in yours - the donor diff doesn't have to be an LSD which makes it cheaper to source the CWP. My slightly earlier ratio 3.45 came out of an E30, needs a rebuild really, it's not noisy but the LSD lockup is po...

So you agree the stiffer bars have contributed to the tearing? Re: H&R Anti Roll Bar Settings
Ok, without the roll bar the full load applies on one side of the axle one wheel will lift and depending on speed in the turn the car will flip over. In reality the original ARB is already risisting some of this load, ergo on simple terms a thicker stiffer bar resists more of the load and keeps bot...

Would be interested to know why it doesn't dignify an answer. The only time the load is constant is when it's at rest (and that's ZERO load). Not following your logic at all. With a larger roll bar it is the diameter that grows, it's not like a footprint. The forces are at the contact points of the body and trailing arm brackets. The bigger roll bar is contained within a bush that is essentially the same size that fits in the same bracket...
