We're glad you're still in the area. I imagined you were moving to the other ends of the earth (Essex, or somewhere!). I'm sorry, but a Z4 can't fill the void. They don't even have a smart crease across the middle of the back window like some trousers straight from a Corby press. Anyway, anyone shou...

I would guess at the wheel sensors. A few years ago mine did the same thing regularly until I started to clean them once a year. Now, no trouble at all. Just on Allen bolt in each one, but hard to do the first time because they will be rusted in and the bolt can sheer off. So soak in lots of releasi...

It must be a couple of years since I had to free up the cable so I think it's worth doing. I was brought up to repair components rather than replace. I've just freed up the throttle cable with a bit of oil down it. It might have been covered before, but I thought I'd share how I did it without having to take off any parts except the cable itself. I was trying to post a new topic from my Ipad mini, and the button for doing so had disappeared. I used to have an 1948 Austin 16 which had it's own built in jacking system. Under the bonnet was a place for a small lever which worked a hydraulic system that could raise the car front, rear or all 4 off the ground. That was the only hydraulic system in the car. The brakes were operated by rods.

One of the most important things is to keep the sanding flat. Don't be tempted to use something like a dremmel which will result in undulations. Hand sanding it is surprisingly quick as the alloy is quite soft.

You don't have to be driving like mad to benefit from rear wheel drive. When you are accelerating, the weight is transferred to the rear of the car, so that's were the driving wheels should be. You could try a proper releasing oil. I believe that The WD40 people do a releasing oil, but that the standard WD40 is not strickly for that use. Try keeping it soaking for a few days. It might save you a few quid distroying the sensors.

I agree with Mike that you should just get the wheel sensors out, and if they are damaged, then just replace them for a few quid. At least the bolts are removable and have not sheared, which is the biggest problem. Once out, they can then be easily cleaned on a regular basis, thus preventing future ...

I think its zinc sulphate solution they use. Im sure it must be all on youtube. The thing is about electroplating is that as long as zinc is deposited, it will oxidise preferencially to the steel. Some steel hulled boats have a big lump of zinc bolted to the hull for that reason. It sets up like a b...

I'm wondering if DIY electroplating could be a possibility. You're always saying that you are going to sell that car. When it comes to the crunch you can't do it. So it doesn't really matter what it's worth. You've put too much into it to let it go for just a few grand.
