Roll up! Roll up!

I have decided to run another "big" cruise for 2010 and after a bit of mulling over it, I thought that the Scottish Borders would be the place to go!

The plan is to arrive in Melrose in the afternoon / evening of Friday 17 September. Saturday 18 September will have a full day of driving with lunch at a suitable point, followed by a return to the hotel for a group dinner. Sunday 19 September will be a drive towards the south for lunch, and then a bimble to a motorway where we can all peel off and head for home.

I have found a hotel in Melrose which will offer us parking for 35 cars and place for about 50 people as follows:

14 Double rooms
10 Twin rooms
7 Single rooms

The B&B costs will be approximately £60 per person, per night, with a £5 per night supplement for single occupancy. Dinner on Saturday will cost approximately £35 per person. So, for a couple, the hotel costs will be £155 per person sharing or £165 per person not sharing. Please note that this excludes Friday dinner!

If you fancy doing something different on the Friday night, there are lots of options available in Melrose.

The hotel does want payment in advance for the booking, with a 50% deposit required by 1 June 2010 and the balance by 1 August 2010.

Please can you advise whether you are interested as soon as possible (and tell me what kind of room you'll be wanting) as I have agreed to get back to the hotel on the 8th of January to tell them whether it's likely to happen or not. It doesn't matter if you aren't sure if you can make it, but I would like to know whether or not at least 20 cars are interested in coming.

So: check your diary, get rid of whatever was in it for that weekend and register your interest on this thread!

Used to live in Melrose, you really need to go into Galashiels if you want a night out! Although I can recommend the ship for a pint although it is also known as the ****. The Cruise sounds cracking if you are going you will love it.

Loved the Cotswold Invasion but can't make this one, sorry

. I'm off to Montenegro on the Saturday, sort of working. Shame really as I've promised to visit a friend in Melrose this year - would have killed two birds with one stone (not that either are actually birds)
