Fliegen Britten (The Flying Britts) German Weekend Break

Saturday 15th - Sunday 16th October 2011

Image

Ok Guys and Girls....

After various discussions and following up on the interest shown, we have decided to launch a weekender trip to the stunning Eifel National Park in Germany.

This is a trip we ran very successfully with the Audi TT Forum in April and we thought it would be a good idea to run it on here for members of the zroadster.net forum.

Our Hotel

View across the lake from hotel

The lake again... wow that's arty
Image

The lake again... stunning scenery
Image

The best way to describe this area is that it is a combination of the Lake District and the New Forest for scenery together with the kind of roads you would expect to find in the Alps. ( See video )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPSeerzm ... ded#at=137

We have driven the roads in this area now on several aoccasions and we just can`t wait to get back and do it again, it really is that infectious. That together with jaw dropping scenery, it really is enough to take your breath away.
We guarantee you will absolutely love the roads in this area, they are totally amazing.
For more info on the area check out the following site

http://www.eifel.de/

This is a proven trip and we have tested and organised everything: hotels, ferries, car decals, petrol stops, lunch stops, photo opps, parking, dinner, breakfast and most importantly, some time to chill-out.

This is going to be a fantastic driving weekend with a little bit of luxury thrown in and we look forward to you joining us.

Itinerary
Provisional itinerary. Things may change, but we wanted to give you an idea of what we will be up to on Fliggen BriTTen.

Day 1
- Meet at (TBA) and apply decals
- Head to Dover ferry terminal for 06:40 departure
- Arrive at Calais 09:10 local time.
- Regroup and then we drive up through France, Belgium and then into Germany making a couple of petrol/drinks stops along the way (full details of route will be in your tour pack).
14:00 (approx) Arrive at the Hotel (depending on how much nattering is done at the stops :lol:) which should give you a chance to chill out and grab a coffee at the restaurant.
16:00 Afternoon cruise time. This route will take in some amazing twisty mountain pass style roads together with one or two surprise photo opportunities. You will not believe these roads they are amazing.
18.00 Return to Hotel and prepare for the evenings fun.
19:30 Meet in the bar, drinks (German beer :) ) and banter followed by dinner at 20:30

Day 2
Breakfast. This will be the usual continental style plus a cooked British option.
After breakfast we head out on a couple of circuits of the area taking in the stunning scenery and yet more twisty roads before finally departing the region and heading for our lunch stop :( .
We will leave the lunch stop and enjoy a leisurely drive back to Calais retracing our outbound route but this time making a short stop for drinks and cigarettes (for those that want to) .before heading for the return ferry to Blighty
Arrive at Dover 21.00 (UK time).

Accommodation
3* hotel. Two adults can share a room with ensuite bathroom, television, etc.

Costs
We have fully researched and tested this trip including planning of routes (there are no tolls to pay), selecting the hotel and getting to know the area and we need your commitment in order to secure the best possible package price and we are offering the usual 2 ways to pay – PayPal (+4% PayPal charge) or via BACS transfer or internet banking directly into our dedicated trip account.

We need to pay for the ferries and hotels now so a deposit of £150 by the 17th June 2011 (Extended to 10th August) is required and the balance by 17th August 2011 please.

Prices are as follows:
1. Two people sharing a car and a room £295 PER COUPLE (+ 4% if paying via PayPal)
2. Driving on your own and single room £265 EACH (+ 4% if paying via PayPal)

The price includes the following:
* Souvenir tour decals
* Return ferry crossing
* One night hotel accommodation
* Parking at the hotel
* 3-course dinner at the Hotel (drinks not included)
* Breakfast

Other costs - These are not included
*Lunch on Saturday / Sunday
*Earlier/later ferry supplement if we change ferries
*Fuel - Approximate round trip to Calais is 600 miles

Confirm Your Place
We need confirmation from you that you are coming and whether you are bringing a partner. Let us know as soon as possible and how you would like to pay then we will PM you with the bank or PayPal details.

Now for a boring bit - Legal Requirements
European law states we will need the following:
* Tour decals (Actually... we made this one up :D )
* Original Driving Licence
* Original V5
* Original Insurance
* Reflector Jackets for every passenger in the car which must be stored in the main passenger compartment and NOT in the boot
* Breakdown triangle
* A GB sticker unless your number plate is the new European style and has GB on it.
* Headlamp Adjustment Adhesive Masks for Lights (if not adjustable Xenon)
* Full set of replacement bulbs
* Fire Extinguisher (recommended)
* First Aid Kit (recommended)
* Passports

Now for the really boring bit - TERMS AND CONDITIONS (Important)
By paying in full you accept the following conditions:
* We do not provide insurance of any kind. You are responsible for arranging your own cover and for all charges incurred together with the repatriation of your vehicle and passengers in the event of a breakdown, accident or medical emergency.
* You must comply with motoring regulations for travel abroad and carry the necessary equipment and documentation.
* Quoted prices are in Sterling (GBP) based on the numbers attending and the prevailing exchange rate therefore final prices may fluctuate. Whilst we will try to minimise price rises, we reserve the right to amend the itinerary and/or price to cover changes.
* You are responsible for your conduct and that of your passenger.
* Cancellation after the final payment date may result in a total loss of all funds paid.

Prior to arrival at Dover and on the return home from Dover.
There is the possibility of mini cruises if people are travelling from the same areas or wishing to meet up on route. Keep an eye on the thread for any opportunities that arise.

So there you have it, let’s make this a weekend to remember !!

I could be up for this, will have to see nearer the time.
Put me down as a possible please.

Eifel National Park is only just across the border from Holland, Maastricht (NL) to Aachen (DE) is about 39 km, Aachen to the Eifel National Park is about 50 km.

http://www.nationalpark-eifel.de/go/eif ... lcome.html

If you like WW ll museums, its worth a quick stop at Malmedy, if its on your route.

PS. You lot think you have pot holes, wait until you get to Belgium.

Hello Hardtop,

I will happily put you down as a possible, we could even round you up en route.

If you checked out the video attached to the launch post for this trip you will see that when we did the trip with the Audi TT forum we also joined up with a number of members from the Dutch Audi TT club

Cheers

I sure hope it does take off, that is how the TT trip started and that is now going to be an annual Anglo / Dutch event.

Sorry Spokey,

The only way this trip works well is for us to use the proven method of the ferry as it also means that the travelling time on the boat gives all the participants the opportunity to get to know one another.

The cameraderie on these trips is brilliant and the port / ferry is where it begins. Jump on board and have a great weekend !!

Cheers

Yeah, I know, but I get bastard sea-sick. :(

I know it's a crap thing, I've run enough cruises in my life to realise what a pain it is when someone *has* to be different, I was just hoping to avoid the misery. :wink:

No, I'm happy to drive the whole way with the group and make sure I'm there at the official starting point in Calais, I'm just trying to avoid seas-sickness.

Hi Hard Top

I am certainly not looking to do anything like you are suggesting, Spokey is more than welcome to join the tour, all I was suggesting is that from experience the cameraderie that forms on these trips begins from the moment everyone meets up and the anticipation and excitement of the tour builds.

If Spokey has an issue with the ferry then I would suggest that via pm we will be able to review his options.

What I will say is that this trip is designed to be a group tour and not group of individuals doing their own thing. It would be of little point spending time and effort putting this tour together if that were to be the case.

I look forward to running a succesful and enjoyable tour with the assistance of Blaize, one that starts with a number of people joining as strangers and departing as new friends

Cheers

Shaun

Hi Spokey,

I sympathise with the sea-sick thing.... I have had one occasion when it got to me too. However I found standing out on the rear deck in the fresh air was the way round it. Well worth the meet up time if you can deal with it though.

There may be a way if we can get the timings right, check out the pm I sent you

When do you need confirmation by? Is it when the deposits are due.

I am very, very tempted.. Need to check out a few things before committing though, like finding a co-pilot to share the costs, and getting a passport sorted...

Hi Gary,

The deposits are due by 17th June as per the info... however the sooner you register the better as there are a limited number of rooms available and it will be a shame to miss out if you fancy it.

You have got plenty of time to sort the passport... as to a passenger to share the cost ... what can I say, maybe kidnap or a small bribe might work.. failing that get a mate drunk on the friday night and wake him up in France on Saturday morning... just make sure he has his passport and a debit card.

Cheers

Shaun,

Put me down as a definite, +1. I'm still waiting for the +1 to get back to me at the moment, but I'll commit as 2. Don't mind paying the extra if I turn up "billy no mates".

Can't wait, just off the the passport website to renew...

Yes I agree Tori
But I think they call it Sod's Law
Your passport only comes back quickly when you're not in a rush :|

If you are really desperate, I think you can (or you could) make an appointment and complete the transaction in person while-you-wait

Just to keep you all in the loop, I will be sending out a pm in the next few days to all those that have registered for this trip :) so that you can sort out the deposit for 17th June.

Anyone who is interested in booking a place on the trip and taking their BMW to Germany for the weekend needs to get in fairly quickly to ensure they don't miss out on this one :cry: .

The intention is to run this as a primarily BMW tour but if the numbers need a boost to make the trip viable I may well open it up to other marques in order to achieve this.

So come on, get your name down for this one, you will be totally blown away by the roads in the Eifel National Park :wink: .

Cheers :thumb:

Good Morning

UPDATE REGARDING FLIEGEN BRITTEN TRIP / BOOKINGS / DEPOSITS

The hotel and the ferry bookings have been provisionally booked and I now have a final date by which the deposit needs to be paid which is the 1st July. 8-)

I will send out a pm to all those who have confirmed their place on the trip a few days prior to that with details of how to pay the monies.

Anyone wishing to register please feel free to get you name down asap as there is still the opportunity to join the trip. A total of 15 rooms have been provisionally booked and it would be great to fill them all.

Cheers :thumb:

Good Evening P+K

You are more than welcome to join the trip, it will be a real fun weekend. As I said today, this area is absolutely stunning and the roads are just something else.

In terms of costs, they are shown on the initial posting but basically the trip is based in 2 people sharing a car and room which works out at £295.00 per couple. The initial post also shows what is included within this price and what you will need to cater for over the weekend.

Hope this answers you questions, it would be great to see you on the trip!!

Cheers, I'm glad you enjoyed today. :thumb:

We'd love to come, but it's farther from here than you guys in the UK..

.. and as Hard Top might be going, I'd better keep out of his way until his accessories have cooled down. ;)

Maybe next time :)

Hi Forest,

Absolutely no problem for you and your wife to join this trip to Germany, I will add you to the confirmed list and send you the details for payment of the depoisit by the end of the week by pm.

I hope all goes well with the engine rebuild and look forward to meeting you both.

Keep an eye out for your pm

Cheers
