Glad accommodation is working out. Could also try the Crown in Blandford (nr the brewery!). Was up at the airfield yesterday am, the tiger moth (bright yellow) was out and flying about. Good coffee, + yes food starts at 9.30am on Sat 14th June.
We may also get a white Z3...
cheers - Ci

When I tried to book in the Royal Chase it was full :( so we're in the White Hart Hotel in Sturminster Newton.

Really looking forward to meeting old (Bazza) and making some new friends :)
Let's hope the weather is good...
Interesting - On the Best Western website there are rooms available. I could have booked a double, bed and breakfast for £100

GETTING TO THE AIRFIELD Please note those coming from North/Shaftesbury to Compton Abbas airfield for start of run and breakfast: the road through Melbury Abbas is closed due to a collapsed building/the floods... please make a note to do this detour: 'In Shaftesbury, at last roundabout south take A30 SP Salisbury then immediately Right onto B3081. Continue, then at Cann Common U will pass Melbry Motor Co on left and then TL (a continuation of B3081) up Zig Zag hill. At top you'll come to a cross-roads, TR to the airfield SP Blandford.' In actual fact you be doing ZZ hill 3 times that morning: up for breakfast, then with Nick down and up...
I'll give you this direction again with the route and other gubbins in June.
Those coming from the south via Blandford and doing the upper Shaftesbury rd are unaffected. Just keep going and after Ashmore sign the next one is the airfield. Disregard the road closed sign... Ci :rtm:

Brazilian Greetings!
It has been a long time since I was last here..
I would love to join you guys on the 14th, though I am not really local (current living in the Cotswolds).
When can I confirm this by?
Can you suggest a good, local B&B as I would arrive the day before?

Hi All...

We ran the route today, although not in the same order.
Weather was not brilliant, but the roads were dry and we managed to have the top off most of the time.

There is a great mix of roads, :drive some incredible scenery and some beautiful towns and villages to oggle at.
Unfortunately many country lanes in this area tend to be bordered by high hedges which can become tedious and uninteresting, but somehow Ci has plotted a route where this rarely becomes apparent.
Dorset is blessed with many incredible driving experiences such as the B3157 Abbotsbury Hill as you pass over the crest and take in the breathtaking sight of Chesil Beach and The Fleet Lagoon stretching for miles down to Portland. (And yes, it is natural...!) The B3157 used to be one of the finest driving roads in the country until it was slapped with a 50mph limit because all the crazy bikers insisted on kissing the tarmac at great speed.... (This road, and West Bay at the western end of it, are still a great mecca for the two-wheel fraternity....you have been warned. ) But even sticking to the 50 limit, it's a wonderful scenic roadster drive. Ci's route takes in this and many other similar experiences. When you leave the B3157 at Portisham, the next 3 miles is national speed limit and heaven on four wheels...!

We didn't go in either of the pubs, but they both looked really nice. The main road of Milton Abbas (where the lunch stop is) is like going through a time-warp. Beautiful thatched cottages set back from the road, the perfectly manicured lawns, afternoon tea outside the church...etc, etc... Just one roadster turned many heads here. Imagine what a line of them will do!

We had lunch at Compton Abbas Airfield which was really good. I can recommend the sausage baguette....(and no, that's not a euphemism  )
Zigzag Hill followed, with the route to it being almost as much fun as the hill itself. I reckon going up Zigzag is better than going down, but either way, try to avoid having anything in front of you to spoil the fun!

So Alfie, Mrs A. and RED had a grand day out. :D
Looking forward to the Main Event in three weeks time!

Cheers!
A.

Hello all,
I am so excited for next Saturday and hope the weather is going to be nice!
My Z3 has been doing a strange, strong noise recently - hope it is NOT the differential! ( BUT I AM STILL COMING TO THE SEA RUN) so I would ask NOT to be left LAST during the cruise please, in case I need to be rescued !
It would be nice if I can have an opinion from you guys about what the problem might be on the day (before I break down :( )?
The weather in the Cotswolds is gorgeous today.
Enjoy your Sunday!

Arrived home after an unbelievably fast run. Tom Tom took me via the A31, M3, A34 and M40. I wont divulge the speed but I never touched the brakes except for a fuel stop and a couple of roundabouts.
Carol - thank you ever so much for arranging everything. It was a stunning route with a good lunch stop and some lovely spots for photos.
Highlight for me was the afternoon run following Alfie in the other S54. Its some time since I've had a spirited drive with a kindred spirit in the same car. Awesome my old mate.
Great group of people and to cap it all the sun shone all day.

Lots of different types of road, not too much traffic (except one horsebox that broke us up....TWICE!), great weather, beautiful Dorset scenery, old friends, new friends, what more could you ask?
Thanks loads to Ci who planned the route and organised everything, and to Dave (Mint) for compiling the TomTom itinerary which was spot-on.
