VC10 beer and burger

***Please note ....revised date*** [hopefully a little more convienient for some]
After a very successful visit to the Newark Air Museum back in May, I was asked if I could arrange another visit as it would seem that aeroplanes and Zed's seem popular. It just so happens that last year I managed to secure a whole forward fuselage and complete cockpit of an ex RAF Vickers VC10. We transported it up the M1 motorway last November to the Aeropark at East Midlands Airport (catch it on utube), where I am helped by RockyDave and other like minded people to look after it and open it to the public from time to time. So, if I were to arrange for a viewing on say Sunday 7th September 1200 -1600, we can fire up the BBQ have a beer/coke and burger and have a photo shoot around the Vulcan or Nimrod. I'm afraid my VC10 baby has only its front half because the whole beast would have been too big...shame, however when you're inside you would'nt know as you settle into the captains seat! There will be a very good chance to open up the Vulcan and the Nimrod too subject to staff, but no promises, but I will open up the VC10 for you. Lots of picnic tables around so you also have VERY close views of the folks jetting off on their hols. to the Costa!
If you are interested, I will form the usual list, and the cost will be £10 a person: (Proceeds to the Aeropark as we have had to buy a second set of steps for the VC10, and they are not cheap!)

Entrance to to the Aeropark
VC10 access and guided cockpit access by me or Dave
Possible Vulcan and Nimrod access
Photo shoot of all Zed's line up around aircraft
Beer/coke and burger
Close up picnic/viewing area to airport

I am just testing the water here, so I'll see how the response is before I go ahead and finalise it.

See ya

I hope it goes well if you enough support do it, all the best mate, Tony and Shirley. :)

You ought to have been at Silverstone yesterday Pete, Silverstone Classic Auctions sold an almost air worthy Harrier for £105,000 and a Tornado for £38,000. Would've looked good on the drive.lol.

There was a Harrier at Cottesmore with ZERO hours on the clock as it had just had a full overhaul. I wonder if that was it, or if it went to India. I know that vehicle documents are not supplied when MOD sells vehicles. I wonder if the new owner gets a copy of the service history, or if they need to set aside another wadge of cash to re-inspect it.

I still can't believe that the powers that be got rid of Harrier and not Tornado. Harrier has a unique capability. Tornado's capabilities can be crossed-over with Typhoon in a lot of areas. I suspect it was the politics of being capable of deploying JP233 that swung the decision.

I may take a trip down, even though my car won't even have reached the magic 60degC on the oil temperature gauge  .

My lad and I are regular visitors to the Aeropark and have sat in the cockpit of the old Argosy before. I'm really hoping we can make it so put the 2 of us down please (Andy and Isaac). Might not be able to stay much past 5.30 but would still come anyway.
Thanks for potentially organising.

Cheers
Andy

Ok Andy will put your names down. It has been suggested that a better date might be the following day..Sunday 7th..but during the afternoon instead, so it's not too late.
General question to all......would the afternoon on Sunday 7th be better??

Strangely enough I was in the pub with Rocky Dave tonight discussing this. We decided to go ahead with the visit on Sunday 7th September 1200 -1600. We so far have about 15-16 people down for it, and talking to Terry (Not ready yet), he reckons some more will just turn up on the day. Just wanted to know rough numbers so we knew how many to cater for. See you then.

No don't use the main airport entrance (south), but follow the brown 'Air Museum' signs which guide you to the Aeropark. As you can see the Aeropark is located on the north west side of the airport with its own entrance off the roundabout at Castle Donington. If your coming from the north, you might be better coming on the A50 and through Castle Donington village. Please also note, that there are major roadworks on the A453 from Nottingham and also were it hits the M1 at J24. It's caused considerable disruption and delays!

There is a high pressure moving in next week...so...hopefully no soggy burgers!! :D

Ok, the weather looks pretty settled this coming week and weekend, at the moment. Park your cars in the car park and grab a voucher (£10) for each person from the main gate. When we get enough cars together, we'll open up the inner gate and marshall you in front of the Vulcan or Nimrod for a 'Zed' line up and photo shoot. The guys at the Aeropark have confirmed that the Vulcan and Nimrod R1 will be open for inspection for you, along with the VC10 of course.

Anymore takers please let me know so I know how much grub to get in..tks :thumb:

Anyone coming from the North ( Lincs / Yorkshire / areas ) want to meet up at a suitable location, would be pleased to do so! M1 is down to one lane a lot of the way to East Midlands Airport ( and a bit slow! ) So alternate routes might be better, any ideas? We are coming from Scunthorpe, North Lincs. If anyone using the M1 give yourselves a bit extra time!

Regards ..... eddie1 ( Pete )
