I'm seeking inspiration for a UK-based driving challenge for next summer.

Any ideas?

Drive through every county, as Gazza suggested. How many miles? 2500?

Have you any info on DTEC. I've done a quick Google and found nothing.

There are different ways of describing counties. (http://county-wise.org.uk/counties/county-confusion/) & (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-27140505)

I would use the ceremonial (lieutenancy) county map of 1997...

Another option is Postal Codes...
http://www.freemaptools.com/uk-postcode-map.htm

I'll do some mapwork to get a better estimated mileage, but I guess that distances PLUS the distance from home to start PLUS the distance from finish to home would be DTEC(England) would be 2000, DTEC(Wales inc Anglesey) would be 250, DTEC(Scotland) would be 600, DTEC(GB) would be 3000.

I guess a DTEC(GB) would be around 4000-5000 miles door-to-door, unless you want to tick-off counties as you drive to the start point, then you can get it down to 3000-4000.

Now that is some challenge, when the details come out i'll read the wording this time just so that there are no midnight runs hidden in there!

Not as bad as I first thought. DTEC(England) is around 800 miles as a series of straight lines. This is my first attempt at some routes.

Scotland (450 miles approx)...

Wales (125 miles approx)...

If you can come up with a shorter (or better) routes, let me know.

You won't find DTEC on google. I made it up :-) DTEC GB looks doable! The Wales route would be a good run.

You made it up, but Gazza knew what it was  .

I'm going to look at DTEC(GB) now, so expect another map by tomorrow :) .

[Edit]Tomorrow is now!!

1400 miles plus driving to the start and driving home from the finish (probably 600 extra) + 25% extra to allow for roads not being straight = 2500 miles - Good Guess Deano :thumb:

Let me know what you think.

If you think that it's worth doing (and I do :D ), I'll go ahead and start loading TomTom to see what the real timings are and start a new thread.

I think it will be three days. I don't see this one as a race. It could probably be done in two days, but that would be a really hard push. I won't know the real timings until after I've put it through TomTom.

What direction? I think N-S, as we did S-N last time.

I would suggest N-S as then you can choose the start according to the weather forecast.

It would be good to get an approx timetable for locations, then you may be joined by other members along the way for a while.

Looks like a race to me!

I'll take the challenge, I'll start in Syria on a skateboard with 20 cents and see how far I get towards the channel tunnel in the time it takes you to get there!

A ZRoadster.Net TopGear challenge!

I'll prepare for N-S and start a new thread when I've got some proper timings.
