Yeah, Si Power is good, but not very impressed with the others.
IMO it's best to choose a plate for the car that you can sell on, OR a plate for you that you can keep....don't mix the two coz it'll be worthless when you try to get rid of it.
If you choose carefully, you won't lose money if/when you sell, so if you've got a spare lump sitting there burning a hole, why not 'invest' it in something you can enjoy? You won't be retiring on the proceedings, but you shouldn't lose out.
Keep looking mate.

Troube is that DVLA sell them and are then very hot on how they are displayed.
A recent circulation by them to all police forces is has again highlighted that if cherish plates are displayed in anyway other than the correct layout and font the police will give you a ticket, take a photograph and report you to DVLA. (See DVLA web site)
DVLA maintain that private numbers are leased to the individual and if your are not displaying them properly they may be withdrawn.
Too many cameras are capturing plate image (ANPR) to enforce minor infringements of the law, congestion charging etc not to mention the dreaded Gatso, all require plates to be displayed correctly to work properly.
On the other side of the coin if your car has a plate not conforming and the vehicle is stolen chances are it won't be captured by ANPR equipment now in many police vehicles.
Don't waste your money.

Pathetic, isn't it?c_w wrote:....and from October MOT stations now have to fail cars that aren't totally spot on.
Just pathetic.
You'd think that the ANPR would be clever enough to read plates even if the spacing has been played with a bit, but obviously the authorities are spending millions and millions of our cash on 'modern technology' that simply isn't up to the job.
A few years ago, some bright spark at the DVLA noticed that cherished plates were changing hands for money and decided that they wanted their cut. So they decided to 'legitimise' the scene by jumping on the bandwagon and selling thousands and thousands of plates at effectively 100% profit PLUS the transfer fee AND VAT.....
Oooo, great fun, yeah? And all thanks to your happy smiley government authorities.....
Now that the supply of worthwhile plates is drying up and they've reaped their big fat bonuses, what happens? Oh what a forking surprise....they rip the fun, interest and profit out of the game by making even the slightest 'interpretation' illegal.
Britain's bully state does it again.
Rant rant rant....

Maybe I should clarify....
In no way do I condone the misrepresentation of characters by deliberately making them look like something completely different, and that includes coloured screwheads and crazy fonts.
But if the spacing of standard letters is tweaked a bit, so what?
The technology should simply be capable of doing the job properly.

I can see the problem with changing the font style, but I can't see a problem with spacing, after all the DVLA has done this themselves when it sees fit for the last 40 years to my knowledge. Some of those different spacing plates are still around, are the ANPR Cameras going to have problems with those ????

I don't have a problem with a little creativity on a number plate, just as long as it doesn't make it more difficult to read. The ANPR system may have no problem with a lot of the 'creativity' people have shown, but what about the human eye?
If someone scrapes your car in a narrow road, wouldn't you want to be able to read their number quickly, maybe even in your rear view mirror before they dissappear?
What about someone getting the number of a car that speeds off leaving you or a loved one lying in the road ?
The problem with 'creativity' is that its all down to degrees. What may seem obvious and easy to read by some maybe much harder to read by others. Where do you draw the line?

Number plate spacings
As a co-owner of a garage and MOT station I can tell you that it has always been illegal to alter number plates in any way but for years testers have been looking the other way. Except my MOT station who make me put on legal plates while being tested and then watch me put my altered plates back on. By the way my plate should read GBZ 112 but is spaced as GB Z1 12 it is stupid but MOT stations get tested by VOSA randomly and can get a penalty themselves if they haven't done there job properly. Personally I don't have a problem with spacing, it's when letters are altered and different fonts are used that really gets to me.
