Cheapy Satnav
Cheapy Satnav
I reckon I need a cheap satnav unit that I can use for work. They're not supplied and TBH I haven't got a clue where I'm going at the moment - and it's a huge area I cover!
I was looking at this: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/161002/sh ... t_overview
as you can update it to TomTom maps (somehow)
Anyone had good/bad experiences of MyGuides, or have any other recommendations please?
Thanks

Be careful with some TomTom models, they don't have Itinerary planning.

I think all the TT ONEs do.garythefish wrote:Be careful with some TomTom models, they don't have Itinerary planning.
I think. Anyway I think I've got a V3 and it does routes.

do you actually like driving at all or are cars to you just a manifestation of some sort of pathological mother complex ?
Thanks for the help so far - but 100+ quid is not my idea of cheap!
I have a proper Pioneer system in the Z (which p155es all over TomTom) and SWMBO has a TT1. I just need a cheap useable unit that I can stick in the car at work, and that I wont get too stressed over if it gets knocked, scraped, dropped etc. I don't need Europe maps or bluetooth or any of that stuff.
So - any good CHEAP satnavs???

I have a phone which uses Windows Mobile and I run TomTom on it, unfortunately not much cheaper than a TT1 I think.RobBruce wrote:What about satnav in mobiles? Any good?
I also have used Google Maps on it, which is good for getting a map and directions. This only costs for the data download from the network, so quite a bit cheaper depending on your tariff, but it is text based directions, not voice.

Hi mate,
if you've got a Windows mobile phone, then try this,
Its free and works pretty well. Well not bad for free, does Postcode look ups over your data packge, so its not free as such, but if you have unlimited data, then its not an issues.

My sisters got a myguide and likes it, but a colleague of mine has one as well and he doesn't like it - so 50/50 on that one. If I was after a cheap satnav I'd try the myguide - worst case if you don't like it you've got a week to return it for a full refund under "distance selling regs"
If your phone has built in gps and a reasonable size screen then I'd use that. I've got a HTC Diamond with tomtom on it and it works great, the screens a bit small, but its totally usable and free

Neatly sidestepping the software piracy You get what you pay for with Sat Navs, the routing software an useability is just as important and the maps. Try a Garmin, Navigon, Snooper or a Mallagen to get a good product without the omTom premium. Try searching herefor a discounted model.
If you can tie the purchase in with a phone, Nokia Maps and TomTom for iPhone could be options.

Use the Search button before posting newbie questions about hard tops and fitting kits, footwell speaker amps, water in the boot, hood maintainance and those horrific angel eyes. We get like 10 threads a week on the same subject, it's obvious that you haven't searched.
I recently bought the Navigo v2 unit from ebuyer and am very happy with it. It has bluetooth and FM radio built in so you can use the radio for voice navigation and also bluetooth your phone for handsfree operation. The Turbodog software on it is cr*p but a quick trip to the web site mentioned in a number of the reviews will get you considerably better software at no additional cost
Don't go for the v3 unit as there seem to be problems with it.
There is also a My Guide 4.3" unit available which may be worth looking at although according to the reviews MyGuide have gone bust so warrantee issues may be a problem.

Software piracy is illegal, I'm sure the moderators will be along soon to reinforce that it is not condoned here.

If its just for work & you don't want something you will cry over if it gets damaged or lost then I would go for a used Garmin i3 ideally with some recent updates, (not that it will matter unless you work on the only 10 miles of new roads in country since Labour came to power).
Small, compact enough for a kit bag and runs on batteries with colour screeen and birdseye view- they go on ebay circa £20..........Job done.

I know. Thats why I made no mention of the web address just pointed the O.P. to the EBUYER web site which it seems is prepared to let it be known that software piracy web sites exist.estocks wrote:Software piracy is illegal, I'm sure the moderators will be along soon to reinforce that it is not condoned here.
THANKS all for the advice.
After much searching around I've settled on a Garmin Nuvo 200 (the i3 got a free upgrade on MCS to the Nuvo).
The cheapest site turned out to be Amazon, with the newly overhauled maps. Signed up for free trial of Amazon Prime, so got free 1 day delivery!
60 quid for the unit and delivery. RESULT
