Anybody Bought These?

Post by TaffZee »

Just browsing E Bay looking for a perspex wind deflector, came upon these, any thoughts? Anyone fitted them?

That's Simon aka "007" on here.
Lots of people have bought his deflectors and I think it would be fair to say that opinion is divided.
Some like them some don't.
I've tried several variants and prefer the BMW mesh type that fits over the roll hoops.
The perspex ones undoubtedly give better visibility but IMHO are not as effective at blocking the wind. They also restrict access to your top storage cubby if you have one.
It's all a mater of personal choice.

They are the best quality perspex deflectors I have seen by far (I had one of the prototypes and a custom made one for the schnitzer hoops)

In terms of performance they are 95% as effective as the mesh OEM so not really noticeable, as stated above they do restrict access to the top storage box but look great (especially if you have chrome hoops) and you can actually see whats behind you

the one thing i have noticed when following someone with a perspex wind deflector is sometimes the sunlight catches it and dazzles you.
never noticed this with a normal glass back window :?

Should I buy the one with the Speaker Option, or just stick with the standard?

Any Thoughts???

Are you looking to upgrade your current speakers? If you are then I would say its a good idea.

Quite liked the look of them when he announced them, but a bit pricey when you factor in buying new speakers to fit it, and then I would have needed to upgrade other parts of the audio system to make the best use of the new speakers...

Hi

As Jont has already stated excellent quality from Simon
I had the OEM Mesh originaly on the car
But I prefer the Perspex as it enables to see
whats behind you a lot clearer
Especially at night as I always left the mesh up

Its a worth a visit to Simons site

We've got one and it's brilliant purely as you can see out the back still. I actually put the deflector on the otherside of the hoops and it did the job still and gave access to the cubby

I have one and to be honest I think it needs to be made of thicker perspex as it vibrates at speed, if you go for one I suggest you get one with rubber around the edges to help reduce this problem.

I have one TaffZee, as said by others great visibility and looks better than the mesh, the downside is that you cannot use the top compartment, use the space behind it or clean the inside of the rear window without removing it.

I'm sticking with the mesh one :) The plastic one just gets in the way if the rear compartment etc, I imagine it's not as good as the mesh blocker :|

Hi

Shame they are a good product
On the ///MR you dont have the option of the top box
as it houses the sub base unit and does not open

I hate to say it and although the quality looks good £140 is insane for a bit of perspex.

mesh is best IMO - even the missus agrees as her hair gets blown about less - visibility is OK but not as good as the roadster.com perspex ones

Is there anything decent available if you don't have the roll hoops?

Anyone who has a JustRoadster one, or one they have made themselves, what thickness of perspex have people used? Do people think this is thick enough, and what thickness do people think would be best if they were doing it again?

I was going to buy one of these but thought the price was a bit steep, so bought some 6mm acrylic and some 50mm velcro straps off of ebay, and set to with drills and a jigsaw. Made a cardboard template first, then cut the profile and slots, then progressively smoothed of the edges by scraping with the back of a hacksaw blade, then a file, then emery paper, getting finer and finer. Finished off by polishing with some T-cut. Took a couple of hours overall, but I think only cost ~£40.

At some point will probably do a MK2 version which has a curved top, which I think will look nicer. Have done 70+mph (ahem) and no problems with strength or rattling. Piccy of it fitted to the zed:

I have one but they have some problem. I really don't recognize it yet but it shows trouble when speed increases. I want now mesh. I heard good about that one.
