Replacement gear knob

Post by martyb »

Hey guys as some of you may know i have a an auto and im thinking of replacing the worn gearknob.

So heres the question,

While googling various things i came across a website that sold one of the newer style bmw gear knobs that illuminated through it to show which position you were in by connecting two pin clasps under the cover.

Also though if any you have done this, are you able to remove the plastic gearknob surround which states your position with a flat plastic piece of trim with a leather fitting the area and onto the gear knob.

the annoying thing is i cannot for the life of me retrace my steps and find the site with the gearknob they even had a video of it being installed and im sure it was around £65 :head:

How about one of these?

It doesn't show what gear you are in, but illuminates either with the lights or ignition, depending on how you wire it in.

I fitted one to the wife's Crossfire and requested green illumination, which they didn't list at the time and they supplies it at no additional cost, which looks like this fitted;

and at night;

It was easy to fit, the quality is excellent and IMHO it looks and feels good, too.

Hope that helps!!

Thanks guys for the comments I had forgotten to reply.

Although after doing some more looking around i found the original one i was talking about it was bimmian.

here it is i think this would be a nice upgrade to the look inside the z.

But my question now is...

The flat plastic trim surround the gearknob, is this the same dimensions as the manual leather gaitor mould and if so could it be replaced with a leather gaitor and this new gearknob? if anyone can understand what i mean haha
