Mirrors

Post by PooBear »

On eBay at the moment there is a set if BMW Z3M mirrors for sale. Was going to get them but the price more than getting them from your local stealer. They quoted me £91+VAT (£220 in total for the pair).

Just in case someone was bidding on them it's not worth it.

£91+VAT for a complete modern mirror seems very cheap. :)

Primed ///M mirror is listed at 179 euro on BMWFans, and painted at 282 euro EACH!!! Bite your dealer's hand off. :)

Z3 ///M Mirrors

Post by Brian H »

Just bought a brand new set of ///M mirrors off ebay. I have been looking for these for a while but at 8 - 10 years old they still command a silly price second hand, c£300.00 and they would need painting on top of that. The delivery took approx 4 days.

Guys, when I bought mine they cost me circa £300 delivered. But a well advertised set of standard Z3 mirrors can fetch £100-150 each... so it's really not a problem 8-)

Do your £200 set come with the mirror glass etc?

Anyone know if LHD and RHD are different in any way?

Cheers

That Ebay seller has some nice stuff just sent him an email to see if the retro headliner is for the soft top or the hard top.

Well done EMEK,

I've asked if he posted to the UK.

Is LHD and RHD different for mirrors?

Only 5 mirrors left.
Could be a problem with adjusting mirror glass plate, adjustment on both sides can be not so good like in RHD mirrors, but I know they will fit without problems & everythng what is behind will be visible in mirrors plates.

Surely the easiest way to see whether the mirror units are likely to work between RHD and LHD is to sit in your passenger seat and test whether your original mirrors would work to a LHD car... I guess the principle would be the reverse for LHD mirrors on a RHD car.

Why do that? estocks has already shown above that they are the same part for lhd and rhd...?

Why would you need too? The bodies have the same part number for the UK. They are the same part and there is no confusion about it.

The mirror glass may be curved on just the driver's side, which will be country specific.

I'm not disputing a difference in bodies, but my test would have confirmed/eliminated the 'maybe' regarding the compatibility of the mirror glass; however Emek seems to suggest the glass is different... which could mean additional money needing to be spent out...

My original concern when reading the OP, prior to etocks post regarding part numbers was that when using Realoem and browsing the mirror part numbers for RHD cars, I received different numbers to those received when browsing LHD cars. This applied to both the mirror base units and glass:-

RHD

LHD

I hope I'm wrong though...

It's curious that there are two part numbers for the same part, nevertheless, if you cross refernce the part number in your like you get
Part 51162492933 (LEFT PRIMED EL.EXTERIOR HEATABLE MIRROR) was found on the following Z3 vehicles:
Z3 Z3 M Coupé, S50, Europe (CM91) : M Outside mirror
Z3 Z3 M Coupé, S54, Europe (CN91) : M Outside mirror
Z3 Z3 M Coupé, S54, Europe, RHD (CN92) : M Outside mirror
Z3 Z3 M Coupé, S50, Europe, RHD (CM92) : M Outside mirror
Z3 Z3 M Roadster, S54, Europe (CL91) : M Outside mirror
Z3 Z3 M Roadster, S50, Europe (CK91) : M Outside mirror
Z3 Z3 M Roadster, S54, Europe, RHD (CL92) : M Outside mirror
Z3 Z3 M Roadster, S50, Europe, RHD (CK92) : M Outside mirror
So they fit LHD and RHD models too, along with the supporting same switch.

51162695143 and 51162492933 are both £210 at Cooper BMW parts.

Could be the PN was changed.

Hi
Could you not just swap the glass/motor part over if the passenger side is the drivers side for the UK and vice versa?

Not sure if this would be possible?

Nope. All you would need to do is buy 1 drivers mirror. A slight curve gives you a wider view. It's more distorted and more expesnive, that it why the passenger side is flat.

This was the same on mine, the mirror/lens was not identified as being specific to one side or another, the only thing you need to do is attach the heated mirror wires if available on the car.

Looks to me like the body of the car is one smooth shape, and all you see is dirt on the paint from the non-M mirror.

Hi guys,

I can confirm these mirrors are a complete set for £220 Inc VAT. If you want some pics email me (alexwilden@hotmail.com) and I'll send them over. Think the price is helped by my friend who works in the parts department :-)

Takes 5 days to come in so allow some time to turn up. PM or email if you want a set.
