Speedster Cover

Post by JAV11S »

I have one of the Speedster covers, it came with my 99 2.8. The girl I bought the car off (a pole dancing nurse, I kid you not) had no idea what it was and had never fitted it herself in the 3 years of owning it. I can count on one hand the times I’ve fitted in the year I’ve had it, but when it’s on and I’m promised there is 0% chance of rain you do feel rather pleased with yourself driving a truly unique Z! It’s on an Arctic Silver 99 2.8 (non-rollbar).

In a way I’m loathed to consider selling it, but for the few times I get to use it and knowing what an outrageously expensive (£925) and ultra-rare option it is, I’m keen to know what the level of interest in it would be if I did. Were I to sell it it would include the 2 curved lower parts, the humped top part, the flat parts behind the headrests, and parts to attach it to the outer roll bar turrets. All the parts come in the original thick leather like black Velcro bags.

Here are a few shots of it on my car...

It is a truly intriguing piece of kit. I was under the impression that they fitted to the hardtop mounts, but you say that it use the outer rollhoop mounts.

There were actually two versions of the speedster cover produced - one for cars without rollhoops and one for cars with. I think yours is the prettier looking of the two.

Unfortunately my car now has hoops, otherwise it might have been a bit of a laugh - it would've been the right colour too. 8-)

I won't ask how you met the seller.

Cheers R.

I agree - the tonneau cover has much sweeter lines

Was going to say earlier, but seeing these pics confirms to me this is the best colour for the Speedster top, looks great on this Zed but somehow on the silver it doesn't :? Totally impractical though unless you live in the Med :sunny

I didn't realise the nurse would be more popular than the speedster cover! Afraid that the story is no more exciting than me finding it advertised on Autotrader this time last year.

Its looks certainly divide opinion! I agree thats its without doubt the better looking one, the other seems to hang over the edge at the front corners and not really fit. It does look smart on the blue M, although that is the roll bar version so its slightly different.Id say it does look good on the darker coloured car too!

Yes it uses the larger roll bar mounts (under the little plastic caps). I also agree about the black rim along the bottom. That is only just a rubber protective edge and could be removed and cleaned up so that it would look more like a normal panel gap.

Practicality of the top - once its on its a bit of a pain to move in any sort of hurry. But then again Id be surprised if anyone bought themselves a Z3 beacause they thought it was practical!

So there is no genuine interest in it at all?

I would have been if it was the one for the hoops but goto like that nurse though :D Have you considered Ebay but with a price that you want for it though. I bet you would get some interest on the DE and USA version.
