Would it not be easier to buy a different charger

There are plenty of generic chargers on the market

I have the same problem, so bought a cigarette lighter extension lead with a right angle plug one end to go into the cigarette lighter socket, and a double socket at the other. I plug the sat nav into the double socket and stick it in the mesh holder on the passenger side and let the lead trail up to the window. Not pretty but it works.

The cigarette lighter is just a tight fit but can be a real PITA to remove.
Easiest way is to flick the gearstick gaitor off and attack from underneath
When I changed the head unit last year I fitted a spare cig socket behind the passenger toe panel.
I use for the sat nav and have a permanent multi-charger monkey LINKin the centre console.
