As above I found this whilest looking on fleebay for a bargain. It is a replica of the simota/gruppe m induction kit. Made from genuine Carbon Fibre with a simota air filter sealed into it. It has a 78mm outlet to the MAF.
I asked how the filter would secure to the body to take the strain off the MAF and intake tube and got a helpful reply from the seller:
Dear w4tkins,
This kit is something I have put together to make it more reasonably priced the filter is bonded into the carbon shield using sikaflex and the unit is held by a clamp which sits under the jubilee clip you will have to fashion a suitable flat bar to suit the Z3
Hope this helps
Dave
As the seller said it is a copy that he has made and for that price I thought it would be a good punt for £60. I am positive I can get a reducer hose and manufacture a bracket similar to the real deal to finish it all off. Quite a bit cheaper than £295 Let see how we get on
Not sure about non ///M Z3's but on an S50 the fit is so good you don't need to make a bracket to hold it (you just need to make sure if fits right up to the slam panel and it won't put any pressure on the MAF housing )

These look good, and are in Warrington where I work. I'm very tempted at the price, but will a 76mm inlet restrict the breathing of the engine? It doesn't seem an awfully big inlet for a 3.2litre engine that can rev to 7400?
I thought my genuine Simota was ok as well, until i the guys at the RR swapped it for an ITG. The ITG (which is around £60). Massive improvement . They said they had alot of issues with the Simota's not performing as well as expected. The ITG gave around 12hp more.
Thats not to say these in the OP wont perform
Looks ok, and they are easy to fit. The carbon is only a gel coated type mat like GF, not the pre-peg oven baked autoclave type (mega light and strong)
Hi all, sorry been away for a bit but I am back now. It turned up on saturday and it looks to be a good bit of kit for £55 delivered
it needs a little tidying up where he has siliconed in the filter. A little extra to tidy up the edges. It has four screw on the inside of the filter which looks like it would still be possible to remove the element and service it.
I don't know when I am going to get round to fitting it as I have spent too much time with zed recently and he needs a break from me I look forward to see how others get on with it and hope they posts pics and there findings on this thread

It should do. Mine arrived today and it looks not bad for the money, I reckon we will run a bit more sealant around where its currently joined but other than that im happy.
Sounds quieter than the piperX I had fitted.
Needs a good road test when the snow allows!!
I did not realise how dirty my engine bay looks! Will have to sort that out as well!!!

Good question, the battery is flat and the car is half way through being serviced including new suspension, bushes, gearbox and diff oil etc so I have not had a chance to try it.
Hi Im thinking of getting onr for my z.
Do I only need a 45 silicone bend 76mm to fit and clamps ?? some mention regarding a bracket ,is this needed or will it just rest on its own ??

Yes to all of the above except I have not used a bracket. I also put a 50mm length of 76mm o.d. alloy pipe into the back of the filter and into the silicone pipe, the stainless steel clips I used were 89mm in diameter.
The way mine is positioned it is resting on the inner wing and the underside of the front panel quite tightly. At the other end I have used some cable ties to secure the Maf sensor to stop it wobbling around, all in all it sits there very snugly.
Thanks Tori
I put an offer in on ebay "but it was rejected". I will have another go today or just pay asking as its a good price.
Thanks for the tips.
have you managed to start your engine up yet so you can hear what the sound is like??
Steve
I have started it up but not driven the car, you cant really hear it on tickover. My car is still on axle stands at the moment, theres a few bits that need finishing
Got mine today.
Paid £45 plus postage ( he wouldnt take £40 ) to much interest on here me thinks!!
waiting for the pipe to arrive from ebay and then will fit when the weather gets better.
Go to the first post and click on THIS and scroll to the bottom they are there.........
But I think you cant buy from there ,best contact the seller and see if any are left. On the link it seems as if some are still available.
Fitted and road tested today. the fitting quite easy. The sound is great when you boot it. Doesnt sound any diferent at normal driving .
So all in all very pleased.
Anybody have one of these they never got round to fitting, or have moved on from, that they'd like to send my way?
