WANTED : Exhaust Camshaft Sensor for 6 cylinder M54

Post by AW8 »

Part Number on realoem shows as 12147518628 fits a multitude of BMW's including as required for 2001 Z3 2.2i.

This is the non cabled sensor that sits on the front of the offside & front of the engine secured by a 5mm allen bolt.

Ideally after a BMW original part but will consider a quality 3rd party item (as opposed to cheap rubbish).

Offers to supply by PM please, (from established & known members with min 25 posts please). Not being awkward here, but keen to avoid paying a total stranger for goods that may not arrive.

I have posted in another thread seeking recommendations for 3rd party sensors. Aware of mixed comments and reservations re same but I have also read mixed reviews of new items sourced from BMW. Please post any recomedations or thoughts re buying new on that thread.

if its got no wire its an exhaust cam sensor and its sits on the offside near the headlight.. inlet one has approx 18 inch of cable on it.

Trust me on this too, dont get anything except genuine.
Ive had them from gsf and from ecp they dont last long at all.
I need a inlet cam one for my 330.Im off to the dealers this time.

Thanks (title changed). I just checked indy paperwork with diagnostic result info shown & indeed it says exhaust sensor. He pointed out the sensor on the car to me too which is as you described & item 5 below (part number 12147518628).

Could have sworn he said inlet.....Perhaps I am losing my mind

A member on another forum assures me Vemo is same as OE. He states he has seen it written on BMW sensors. I can source same for £25.22 inc vat. The BMW dealer price with discount is £83.28.

Vemo link here

I have researched & heard plenty of horror stories re non original sensors & thus I only want a BMW original or one technically identical to the BMW item (albeit without the BMW logo).

I have also heard Siemens VDO, (who I believe make the ECU), may make sensors for BMW too but I cant source one anywhere.

Normally wouldnt fuss re the costing but keen to balance books a little if able as the car has recently been spoilt prior to MOT......New ARB drop links x4, Z3M lower wishbone bushes & rear anti roll bar bushes plus all new fastenings & brackets where required, (all OE & dealer sourced).

Thanks for replies.

Now sourced. Went for the Vemo having had recommendation on here from member who fitted a Vemo exhaust sensor without post fitment issues.
