Thinking of breaking my zed

Post by the_youth »

I have a S50 estoril blue m roadster.
Great running car but a slight error on my part when rolling the car back into the garage, I bent the drivers door.
Have a replacement but having had my time with it, I was considering sale or breaking.
What you reckon would be best? I.e what would be worth more?

It has about 80k on the clock though the engine was rebuilt about 10k ago....

I guess.

Just lost motivation at present. Plus the missus is keen on a X5!!!!

Plus, I've seen nice m roadsters going for 6k and thought that even by breaking I'd make more.

Unless i am mistaken you were selling parts off a silver 1.9 a couple of months ago which when asked you didnt say how much you wanted for them, now you have an M which could be broken up, are you a breaker :puzzle:

Pic of the car last summer in Spain parked to a massive pineapple!
Drove the car there and back and was faultless! Pissed of I was so daft and damaged the door. However, I did manage to buy a replacement door with glass for £36. I then bought the passenger door for 99p from the same chap and rear quarters for 99p each (though they were of a 1.9 but for that price why turn it up??).

Maybe I ought to consider a full strip down and rebuild...... Something to do over the winter months....[/img]

Not a breaker. See post above. Needed a door so bought off a chap who had broken a 1.9. Decided to buy the other parts off him for 99p each!!!

Sorry, haven't looked at my last post in ages. Still interested in the rear quarters?

looking of the pics of that holiday is bringing back the enthusiasm.

To be honesy, if I start I don't know where it will end....
Full respray....
New hood.... (this car has a black hood rather than the usual blue - german spec according to BMW, along with the chrome window surround)
Refurbed wheels....
Full retrim... (driver seat typically marked on bolster)

Maybe a few tasteful mods..... rechrome the window surround and chrome on the grills with shadow chrome....

Ahhhhh the thoughts!!! Even considered respray in blue velvet....

Spoke to Paul @ P&G trimming. Not a bad quote for recovering both seats, door cards and also discussed recovering centre console and dash.

Well each to their own. Would rather pass over the whole thing rather than break. Though I am tempted to really go to town on it (can't do something half assed). Only problem is I could get carried away and blow a fortune. Plus theres a company near me that puts LS3 engines in z3's.....

The missus is gonna cut my balls off! She wanted me to get rid in favour of an X5....

I'd be interested in the mirrors (side view) and inside doorhandles, to pull the door, not to open it.

If you do break it :) Let me know!

Hmmmmmm.
Work life keeps getting in the way. Spend more time travelling around the country than at home an tinkering with my zed. Got drivers door and front wing but not even painted yet.
Anyone want to take it and finish it????

If you want rid then stick up a price, it would seem plenty of potential takers lurking on the forum.

FYI an s50 M which was listed as cat D just sold for £5k on ebay this week, pictures showed it was rough arse round the edges too!

I think you'll have to put in a lot of effort to break and get that sort of money but it is easily done, poss £2-3k for engine, £300 LSD, £250 interior, £300 ish wheels etc etc

As Shantybeater said a good one aint going to be sold much short of £8k, if not more. I paid £7500 for a reasonably clean one with work needed this year :?

Cheers mate. Sound advice!
As I don't have time to fix, I won't have time to break either (at least not at the moment as I have other things on the go).
1st 4.5k can take it away an i'll even throw in a spare passenger door (inc glass etc...) and 2 rear quarters from a standard zed.

Might be best to post a few extra details:

Location;
Mot/Tax;
Service history/receipts
Work needed / condition of consumables (tyres/brakes etc)

Better still do a proper advert in the stock exchange section - I need to speak to the mrs's bank asap!

No MOT or Tax. Been SORN for a year or so.
Rear tyres are due replacement but brakes all round are good.
Engine was actually rebuilt less than 10k ago by the same people I got it from who are known in the BMW race circuit in the UK.
History isn't complete as it was a finance repossession before I got my grubby hands on it. BMW tracked down some history for me but as the car is Munich special order (black hood and chrome window surrounds) it is not a uk spec.
Driver door and wing bolloxed (it rolled back with door open and caught on a low wall). I have the replacement wing and door ready to go, just needin paint. About 80k on the clock.

Estoril cars came with a blue hood and chrome surrounds on M's where usually a costly extra (though I've not seen another with it). VIN is B06831
