Breaking My Z3

Post by as-racing »

Hello all,

I'm prepping my Z3 for race use, so have almost all interior (and most other) parts for sale, from interior plastics to control modules etc. Eventually I'll be getting rid of the body panels too (making my own composite copies) including the hardtop.

Some parts are up on ebay at the moment:

Please contact me (Andy) on 07590016888 if there are any parts you're after - I'm open to offers and looking to sell almost everything.

Don't suppose you'd sell the door cards separate to the seats?

They're included in an auction with the seats on ebay at the moment I'm afraid. If the auction doesn't sell, then yeah you can have them separately.

I enjoyed reading your blog. You should have no trouble losing 90kg. How much does the roll cage weigh, as this weight will also have to be saved? The seats are probably 20kg each, so a 35kg saving there, perhaps (one race seat = 5kg approx). Does the car have to be road legal, or just race legal?

Can you start a new thread so we can comment on your adventure, or should we make comments on your blog?

Greg01,

I do have the sills, however, they're part of the complete interior which has been provisionally sold I'm afraid. If this falls through though, then they're yours!

pingu,

Thanks very much for your comments. My plan is to try and generate a lot of interest in the project so I'll be frequently updating the blog with everything from CFD analysis to "inside tips and secrets" in an effort to promote the engineering behind it. I don't think I'll have time to maintain a build thread here too, so any comments on the blog would be much appreciated!

With regards to the weight, the rules have now changed and there is no minimum weight- only a maximum power:weight ratio. This is fantastic for us as we will be struggling on power, but expect some pretty trick composite parts as the car goes on a serious diet- there's already talk of a full ACO Le Mans spec. carbon bucket seat! It's amazing how much the rear wheel arches have popped up with the weight shedding so far, I'll try and get a decent photo for you next time I'm working on the car.

I'll keep you posted and give me a shout if there's any parts your after as I'm pretty much getting rid of everything.

Cheers,

Andy
