Re: Wanted gear nob
Your request begs the question...how much do you want to lay out for a good knob? Do you want a leathery one, or something smooth and unadorned, with or without chrome, a "branded" knob like AC Schnitzer or genuine BMW, one that will not stick to your hand in winter and not get slippery if you use hand cream...There are so many knobs out there to choose from, and it's really a question of personal preference...perhaps you should upload a pic of your out-going knob to give an idea of what you've been handling to date...
There's the Royal Knob
..and the Glow in the dark Knob
..The Woody knob
..and the understated "smart" knob
and of course the bit of "foreign" knob...

I hear that Ann Summers is now doing gearknobs, but I think you'd be left feeling a bit of a dick with one of those.
Which part of your knob has split FF? The chrome part I am pretty sure is metal judging by how cold it gets, and the usual problem is that the chrome scratches and comes away. The core of the knob is plastic and this does split, which is what happened to my previous one.
You just missed a chrome/black leather one in VGC in the stock exchange.
Plenty of people swear by the Storm Motorworks knobs - these are heavier and reputedly improve the gearchange.
Cheers R.
