Hardtop hoist

Post by steve01 »

Bmw z3 hardtop hoist (manual)

This is an official bmw part designed for this car

I'm looking for £170 + p&p which shouldn't be much

If I didn't already have one, I'd be biting your hand off! They're absolutely the very best way to store your delicate and expensive top. :)

What would the P&P be to the south of England
I have thought about buying one again
Got into a bidding war once and went off the idea after losing :head:
Does it come with the winch and all necessary parts

Got delivery of the Hoist :)
Not a very good start, the packaging was ripped open in transit :(
I think angry would be an understatement
There are a few bits missing, I found some screws on my path :head:,
hopefully they are just fixing screws, not any contents info
I'm out action after delicate shoulder op this week,
so it will have to wait

Important bits are: the winding mechanism c/w slip on covers (although they don't matter really), the handle, the cruciform bar with eye bolts and the hook bars, the hand wheel nut/screws for the hook bars fixing to the cross bar, two pulleys and dog collar fasteners on the end of the cords. I cannot think of anything else except the manuals for installation and use. Memory not was it was.............

I thank you

Some of these items don't mean a lot to me
I do have manual for a Universal pulley ? 'in German'
Illustrates the Winding mechanism, handle and cord

The bars that fit to car are separate, no parts listed

I will take picture and post
And then do a check list

If you look at the first of my pictures you'll see the hook bars picking up the rear fasteners on the hardtop, and the cruciform bar transverses the hardtop to the other hook bar and forward to another (short) hook that goes under the leading edge of the hardtop. The hook bars are separate from the transverse and bolt on. If I can find my manual I'll scan it and post it up. I haven't seen it since I moved house last December though... Shouldn't be far away, I only moved ten miles! :D

I hope this is clear; you have to look at the German parts with diagrams and then try to relate them to the English text. The first set are assembly and the last are instructions for use.

Hope the shoulder gets better soon - cranking the handle is very wearing!

Top Man :D :D
Many Many thanks
I'll check later on all the parts
One of the parts found outside was the fixing
for the middle cord attachment joining the cross section :)

I did notice you need a bigish garage to operate this,
its got to be a lot better than hanging it in a bag, I went off the idea of using
the hardtop because I always needed a hand to get it off the wall and fit it
Having a tiny wife didn't help

I did try translating without success, follow the pictures
When you take off the hardtop is it straight forward ie put the front support on first ?

If you read through the rather opaque directions you'll find you have to separate the side pieces from the cruciform, fit the side pieces individually under the rear quarters of the hardtop (sit the mounting pins into the holes in the lift parts), lower the cruciform and assemble the sides to it. The front hook carries almost no weight at all so I find it best to set the cable lengths such that the rear part is a turn higher so that when it takes the weight the cable stretches. If you can print out the pages it will be much easier than reading from a screen. There is English text but not on the diagram pages.
