WTB Styling 78 or Styling 42 17' alloys

Post by Lorenzo »

Hi guys,

I'm currently searching for a set of Styling 78 or Styling 42 17' alloys, please propose!
Postage to Italy will be required...
I will also consider wheels in need of refurbishment, but perfectly round! :D

Many thanks for your help!

They very hard to find for some reason (the 78's).
I managed to get a set of Style 78's by buying and entire 2.2 sport and taking them off (along with interior and facelift lights).
The 78'S are lovely, I just need to get some quality spacers to help it sit right (also have 18 inch Beyern Multis that sit perfectly on the car with no spacers and I am used to wheels filling the arches properly now. The 78's don't even though they are staggered but easily sorted, job for the summer..)

Good luck with the hunt.

You have good taste, that's for sure.
The original 7,5/8,5 set style 78 is hard to find indeed.
Very wanted in the UK (I think there is no country in the world where so may ZZZ's are on 78's) so hard to find here.
Not very popular on the European continent, so also hard to find there.
You might try this guy: http://www.autobarthobraat.nl/home
I bought a set 78's from him once.

Thank you Dino, your car looks awesome! Here in Italy we have no possibility to fit 18' alloys, mad world...

Bartho Braat is a well known zed's parts 'pusher' also in Italy, I will keep an eye on his auctions.

Thanks, can't wait for spring and summer again to use it more.

Why can't you have 18's in Italy? Is it the law or do you live in Rome so will crack them!!

When I bought my car Id only seen pics if it from the seller and in the pics I thought the 18's were too big and planned to sell them for 17's straightaway. However when I saw in the flesh for the first time with 18s I was convinced. In the photos 18 look big but in real life when you look at the car it looks just right, especially with a deep dish.
The 17s do make for a better drive and more progressive handling but I do prefer the 18s when I'm looking at the car. So it's nice to have both sizes I guess.

I think 17inch beyern multis would be me ideal wheel one day, that way I have the dish and the bigger tyre side walls..

I have these 17" original BMW 2 part rims in pristine condition. No scrapes, chips, scuffs, rust etc...perfect wheels.. They are narrow / wides and are currently on my Z3 3.0...
Make me a stupid offer....

Hi Dino,
As i bought my Z3 last February, I immediately tried to fit 18's by asking the permission to Bmw Italy (My girlfriend works at the local Bmw dealer). We had a categorical NO. By having 18's you're risking the seizure of the car, and your assurance would not pay in case of an accident.
The only 10/15 Z3 in Italy that have 18 inches wheels have been imported from Germany.
This is my car now, with brand new 32's (Bilstein B8 and Eibach springs are waiting to be fitted):

Hi Lorenzo,

That doesn't surprise me.
I lived in Greece for a number of years and am familiar with absurd laws! Over there the car tax on anything over 2000cc is 1200euro and more per year!
Done business in Italy and some of the laws are crazy but love the place!
Great place to drive a Z though. You enjoy a slight better quality of ride anyway on 17s so you not missing much!
Once lowered you'll be happy with the 17s as it makes big difference on looks. Maybe try some spacers to fill it out more.
The 32s that you have go for sill money here as very popular, classic BMW look and looks great on yours.

Here in Spain you must have the same size wheels and tyres as stated on the registration documents otherwise it's an itv (mot) failure. I have 16 inch Avensis alloys on she who must be obeyed' Yaris, looks and handles much better but have to put the standard sofa casters back on for the test each year!
Fortunately road tax is much cheaper here than Greece tho', goes by cc and where you live. My 2.8 is €82.00!

Yes you are fully right, missed the the photos with the details.
But you might try to make him a reasonable offer. He probably will not sell them for this price.
