Re: THE EXTINCTION OF THE OEM CUPHOLDER
This sounds good stuff, "drinkies" in the top down cockpit too......can't wait! Think we might have nicked your SA sunshine up here, but I'm sure well give it back soon.

Re: THE EXTINCTION OF THE OEM CUPHOLDER
...Update..
A good day at the office ! Managed to source nylon flat washers for the fold-away cupholder..so it'll be a nice "smooth" movement vs metal on metal at the pivot point...Also, found a guy who does bead blasting vs sand blasting...so the "finishing" process will be taken care of before anodising... I reckon 2 options will be available...Black or Silver anodised...I'm not going to get into the polished ally thing...too much like PT and getting into the inner faces will be a nightmare.. The bead blasting gives a smooth slightly satin finish to which silver anodising will bond very well and still leave a slight textured surface finish which is more scratch resistant than a truly smooth surface...the same process with the black anodising will look stunning. The bead blasting will take of the sharp edges very slightly which will make the item more comfortable to touch too..
The laser cutting guy will get back to me by wednesday with quotes on 20 / 30 and 40 pieces...of both the armrest and cupholder components. My earlier hope to have one ready done and installed by the weekend may not materialise...especially as the quotes won't be available until wednesday..and they will ask for another week to get it out their production queue...

Pic of the nylon hinge for the armrest...each armrest will have 2 of these. I' waiting on the quote from Maizey plastics..hopefully later today...
It's smaller than the pic implies...25mm x 25mm x 15mm thick... held by 4 x 3mm black screws which will slot in below the chamfered surface, with the steel hinge shaft fitting into the 6mm hole running through the center.

Re: THE EXTINCTION OF THE OEM CUPHOLDER
Finding a packaging / box supplier that will supply me the size box I'll need for packaging right now...everything else is lined up to go.

About 1000 mile round trip to Le Mans in June for me, I reckon for me that's a whole load of latte's (which could get spilt!). Keep it up Barry

...Thanks mate...People are a little slow around here this week...quotes I was hoping for by yesterday have still not arrived...so I'm sort of marking time at the moment.... Sounds like a magic trip you're planning...I might suggest you take a towel along to mop up the spill...

Re: THE EXTINCTION OF THE OEM CUPHOLDER
..... some insight of where it began...
1st Pic...was sometime in the wee hours...I woke up with the idea....made a rough sketch so I wouldn't forget what I'd thought of...
Then a couple of days later....
and later still....
...then someone mentioned cupholder !!!
....and now we're onto the final stages....the countdown has begun....

Re: THE EXTINCTION OF THE OEM CUPHOLDER
.... a departure from the OEM "plastic box".... much more in tune with the interior finish, and since it's mostly lodged between the seats, not as Borg-like as you imagine....No coin dispenser, full access to the OEM storage, ashtray included, and a seriously smooth cupholder which can be moved out the way of the driver's gearshift hand....

Re: THE EXTINCTION OF THE OEM CUPHOLDER
Have you contacted any insurance companies to try to establish what kind of increases in premium we should expect after installing such a performance enhancing modification...its bound to make a 1.9 quicker than a standard M surely???
PS...add me to your list...my 2.8 should be able to outrun turbod Lambos with one of these bad boy fitted

Re: THE EXTINCTION OF THE OEM CUPHOLDER
Yeah, I really didn't need a public holiday tomorrow...what a waste of 24 hours for someone elses political persuasions...Anyhow, it's what it is...
Instead of having an entire weekend to do some really good photographic work and complete the "Installation Guide"..I'm left doing more mundane stuff...like cleaning up the garden after 3 weeks of incessant rain...

Re: THE EXTINCTION OF THE OEM CUPHOLDER
This looks very promising can't wait to see the finished product! Might have to trade in my oem version at this rate haha
Re: THE EXTINCTION OF THE OEM CUPHOLDER
Me too....I'm putting off the installation of the OEM one until I see this one
Designed or not designed, that is the question.

Re: THE EXTINCTION OF THE OEM CUPHOLDER
Sounds good, I was thinking about getting an aftermarket one of these. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
