WANTED - Front Splitter's

Post by sirius-c »

Anyone got a pair of front splitters in good nick for sale?

Plenty on eBay for a 1.9 but mines a pre face lift 2.8...I'm assuming 1.9's won't fit.

Says its for a 1.9 but if you enter car details as I did for my 2.8, it says it will fit. Not sure if I would take the gamble to be honest

Someone here who knows better the difference between widebody and 4cyl bumpers could tell if they will fit.

........ really quite simple.... send the seller an email asking him to confirm fitment... If he confirms it, and it subsquently isn't correct, it's fully re-fundable according to eBay rules...

......... Right, JP Carbon, who it turns out is also the supplier for the splitters we have been discussing above have replied to me... they tell me it will fit the 1.0 model perfetly, however on the 2.0 - 3.0 bumpers, it doesn'y follow the line of the bumper perfectly, and although it is a reasonable fit, one may want to "fill in" the small gap along the line between the edge of the bumper and the splitter with some resin or silicone.... so that's the story regarding that item..

Those AC Schnitzer ones for the ///M bumper are exspensive though excluding the exspensive shipping but the ACS ones to look the part though.

Re: WANTED - Front Splitter's

... Hi Stephen.... I'm meeting with a fella, Jason Laing, here in a few days time who has a 3D printing facility... He tells me he can "print" an accurate mold for somthing like a splitter, added to which, he also does pressure molding of PU, so possibly he may be the right guy to sort out a reasonable splitter for the non 1.9 cars.. :D
My thoughts on the subject lead me to think that the area of greatest concern is the fit between the splitter and the bumper along the curved edge. Technically one would imagine this would be identical on every Z3 with the same bumper fitted. I doubt that it is in fact true though, since small variations must surely occur during the original assembly to adjust components to match them to the next panel on the car. And even if this only ammounts to 5mm, it will make fitting a "one size fits all" item difficult to achieve. I envision a product with a small ammount of flexibility to compensate for any variation in the curve of the plastic bumper cover on any Z3... it's a simple but ultimately effective idea which I will discuss with Jason. If he can do the bussiness, I'll let you know... Meanwhile, I'll be speaking with one of the M car owners to provide me with an outline drawing of the M bumper OEM "splitter"... which will mean it becomes easy to transform the look of a non M bumper to one which more closely resembles the M bumper - at least along the edge anyhow.
The advent of the 3D printing process is certainly providing opportunity for fairly easy design of small items to high quality and accuracy..... so give me a week or three, and I'll get back to you...
