Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
Is it lower than standard or it just looks lower? Anyone has seen pictures with something like that fitted? Would it fit wide 2.8?

Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
.... from what I see, it's a totally different shape as well as having a smaller number plate insert area.... it doesn't have as pronounced a bumper with the spoiler look as per UK OEM... I would imagine it will fit the Z3's for width... perhaps have a chat to the seller..??

Might it be from aero kit?

Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
Seems it's not so "big in Japan"....
Appears to be the liscence plate lighting fits inside the recess for the number plate... must be an OEM item for the smaller Japanese plate size ?? Interesting little variation though..
... and both pre & post facelift... with "humpless" carpets in the pre boot...

These bumper clearly has visible inserts, not like the one which is for sale. Also the shape of the bottom looks different.

Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
.... I noticed that too... maybe there were different versions of the bumper as in widebody vs narrowbody ?? But whichever way you look at it, it wouldn't be difficult to convert a European bumper in similar fashion via a good body / bumper repair shop if you wanted to change it to fit a smaller number plate.
Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
I was more interested in that bumper if it would be lower or wider at the bottom as standard. Not because of number plate.

Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
....... in the pics I posted, the facelift model would have the "widebody" bumper, since that was basically the #2 verion of the widebody after the prefacelift version... so it would be applicable to wider.... as far as lowre, I doubt it, since the exhaust tailpipes appear to have a similar cut-out as the European models.
Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
Are you sure it is from Z3? It states it is from 2000 car, which should be facelift car. In that case it should have curvy lines on the top for rear lights as on the bumper visible in the image posted above. And the corners look too sharp for z3...

Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
...... have a look at the 2 pics I posted... one is pre-facelift and the other is facelift... they are both Japanese cars.... and they both have the similar numberplate recess...
Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
Ok, I see the bumper advertised is from pre-facelift version.
The bottom part (near exhaust) is still very wide - looks wider than standard, don't you think?

Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
...... it may be off a pre-facelift widebody car - like the black one in the pic I posted.... that appears to be a 1.9 widebody version...
The only way to tell is a view of the side where the tail light fits into the bumper... on the pre-facelift it will have a more square cut-out area to fit that style of tail light vs the rounder oval facelift tail light.... have a look at the pics I posted... where the tailights fit to the bumper on the side of the car..

Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
........ just had another look at the eBay pics... and yes, you are correct, it's from a pre facelift car...
Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
Yes, you are right. I still want to search for images of similar bumper on some z3 on the internet to see how it looks on the car...

Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
I got those pics by doing a search in google under " Japanese Z3's images"..... there's tons of them
Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
But still not with particular bumper. By adding site:.jp you can narrow your search to Japan sites only.
Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
The closest pics I found are these:
The last one looks like oem aero bumper but it will fit to facelift cars only.

Google "Japanese BMW Z3 Images"..... click on it, and practically every ZR in the piles of pics hae the bumper with the inserts and smaller number plate.... the fact that the one for sale appears to be smooth - ie. no inserts, may be due to the owner having had it "smoothed"... but in all other ways and appearances, it is identical to a European bumper...
Go to my original link and have a look at all the photos posted by the seller...
Maybe you're working on a different google to me.... but here you go, this is the link...

I can't agree. If you check original link you will see from the inside of bumper that there are no inserts and it hasn't been smoothed.Southernboy wrote:Google "Japanese BMW Z3 Images"..... click on it, and practically every ZR in the piles of pics hae the bumper with the inserts and smaller number plate.... the fact that the one for sale appears to be smooth - ie. no inserts, may be due to the owner having had it "smoothed"... but in all other ways and appearances, it is identical to a European bumper...

Also the bottom of the bumper looks with excess (opposite to the recess of standard bumper). Looks pretty much like yalden's aero bumper, only without inserts:

Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
..... yep you seem to be right there.... might have been an original variation, which was superceded by the insert which would mean BMW need only make one type of bumper..?

Re: RARE Z3 REAR BUMPER FROM JAPAN...
Its the Aero rear bumper for the smaller square rear plate markets...probably Japan, Australia and US (but US has corner marker lights fitted)
