SOLD: Z3 Rear Subframe Bush Inserts

Post by Brian H »

I set of brand new subframe bush inserts, helps tighten up your sloppy backend :)

I bought these with the intention of fitting them to my car but changed the bushes instead.

Just wondering is the 'subframe bush' the same as the 'rear beam bush'?

Yes - most z3's (because of their age) would now probably be improved by these subframe bushes being given some attention. Plan to change mine for Powerflex polyurethane ones next week. Having examined several bush kits from this brand closely, I have been impressed with the quality and become a convert.

Found a thread on this on the US forum:http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showt ... p?t=760811

Seems that labour involved to put the inserts in is not far off replacing the bush provided you are able to remove the bushes.

It cannot be that bad Dino, Jack up the car and put on axle stands, support the rear beam with a trolley jack, take of plates 4 (pic below) which comprise of a nut and 2 torx bolts IIRC, insert bush inserts and put back together.

Hi Brian,
I see what you mean.
The Inserts Randy Forbes made go in the the top and bottoms of the bush and are circular so need dropping of the whole subframe.
The ones you sold are a lot simple for sure.

I'm not an expert in these "compression" subframe bushes but would guess that for the inserts to work best, one has to start with OE bushes that are in good condition. Mine looked a bit ropey (build date May 1998). In my vicinity, I've found a couple of independent BMW specialists who have special jigs that they use in connection with their commercial car ramps. It allows them to drop the rear subframe slightly so that the bush can be removed (with commercial grade puller etc) and new poly one inserted. Amounts to about 2-hours labour (£130-£200) plus bushes (£70).
