WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
All,
I've been in the market for a Z3 3.0i for about 2 years now and have failed to find the right car, with the right spec and history, at the right price.
If something doesn't turn up this year there's a good chance I may give up on my plans and head down a different route!!! So to try and restore my faith, are there any members here who would consider selling up their beloved car at the right price? Or have you seen one for sale that could be of interest?
Regards,
Chris

As much as I love Z3M's I'm not sure I could ever own one, simply because all the rare parts I've acquired over the years are predominantly for non-M's. I'd have to start over, hunting down the prefacelift 3-pc aero deck spoiler, hamann bumper fog inserts etc...Jonttt wrote:Too much power for you Chris

I'm also conscious that they're really starting to appreciating now and I would probably end up begrudging myself for not buying one a year or so ago for 6-7k.
I'm steadily leaning towards Z4M's, plenty of imola roadsters out there for the picking and parts aren't anywhere near as hard to come by, presumably because the Z4 sold in much greater numbers! S54 power, a few extra creature comforts and a reasonable investment...
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
There is someone selling a white z3m on Facebook with about 95k on the clock. Comes with matching hardtop and looks very clean in and out. White is quite a rarity and they are only asking £6.5k which is mega cheap in anyone's books.
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
Nothing wrong with a Z4m but those parts definately won't fityalden wrote:As much as I love Z3M's I'm not sure I could ever own one, simply because all the rare parts I've acquired over the years are predominantly for non-M's. I prefer the Z3 Classic looks for visual modding, but you've already been there and done that I guess
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
Thanks for the link. I'm not convinced that's an original Alpine white, although I could be wrong, it just seems an odd combination to have blue interior on a white Z3M. £6.5k with hardtop almost seems too cheap and makes me wonder what is wrong with it!the_youth wrote:https://www.facebook.com/groups/6321243 ... 368253583/
I'm with you on that but I think the only way I could work a Z3M is by heading down the coupe route. Unfortunately they're often circa 20k, which is almost double what they were selling for a couple years back, so again I'd begrudge myself for not buying sooner. I did see an Estoril Blue on pistonheads for 13k or so last night, with 108k on the clock... that is tempting but I would really prefer a lower mileage example, ideally in Imola.Jonttt wrote:I prefer the Z3 Classic looks for visual modding, but you've already been there and done that I guess
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
That White Z3M is original, Its the only one in RHD in the UK the other 3 are LHD.
Bare in mind that white Z3M used to be supercharged in the past, also the seller has no service history and she's ropey round the edges. (Guages dont work,Currently flat battery, little rust)

Would it be a good buy then long term? Obviously a rare thing, worth throwing a few quid at.Joycey wrote:That White Z3M is original, Its the only one in RHD in the UK the other 3 are LHD.

It could make for a good long term project and almost deserves to be saved but whilst you can polish out any cosmetic and mechanical flaws the history of the car is not always recoverable and to me that's quite important.Joycey wrote:That White Z3M is original, Its the only one in RHD in the UK the other 3 are LHD.

Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
Exactly, the only thing that worries me is why hide its history. I carried out a HPI check and VIN number check yesterday on this car all seems correct. Seeing as my M is white its not original unlike this one.
It does need alot of work but the perfect project.

Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
Let's face it, with the age of them now and the fact they do change hands more often these days, an M is always going to be a project. Some may need less work than others but all will need work. How far you go depends on your abilities and how particular you want to be.
A dog can be made to look good again.
Mine didn't have any history with it bar the fact I knew it had a rebuilt engine just before I bought it. Not because it was anything dodgy but because it was a finance repossession and the previous bint owner decided to destroy all docs (didn't stop her trying to register it as stolen when I applied for a v5 a full 2 yrs after the finance company took possession). She abandoned the car when she blew the engine and stopped making payments. I got the car from a BMW specialist who happens to be a friend. I initially wanted and E30 M3 but out of price range and this with its simple set up and few drivers aids made it close in terms of a drivers car.
Since I've had it ive corrected all issues. It will never be concourse but I enjoy it and it'll be something my kid could use when he's old enough (in about 16yrs!!!)
I've also had a fair bit of help from BMW in reconstructing most of the history. It wasn't easy but the dealers who serviced the car are still around and have sent me copy invoices just with the names and addresses of previous owners blanked out.
So remedying the situation is possible.

Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
I've been talking with the owner and it is becoming more and more tempting. If it wasn't a 6hr drive to view I'd have been there already to give it the once over. I have no doubts that I could turn it around, clean it up and recover some of the history... I recall seeing a review in BMW Car when it was owned by namatjira (the car was called 'Boomer').Joycey wrote:Exactly, the only thing that worries me is why hide its history. A bit of searching confirmed that the temp gauge was removed to accommodate a boost gauge, so presumably it was never wired back in (hence doesn't work now). Having seen the amount of work that was undertaken back along my worry would be that when returning the car to original spec there may have been a few short cuts...
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
id be worried too if whoever did the work thought a boost gauge was more important than a temp gauge. ffs you can fit a boost gauge anywhere
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
It was only the external temperature gauge...
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
Thought you guys may be interested if you've read this thread from the beginning, just a small profit if it sales lol beginning to grate a little that I may never be able to afford an M at this rate. Even thought of viewing this as it was such a good price compared to many for sale at the moment but the distance involved and the fact it had previously been fitted with a supercharger with very little history put me off.Really need to be more decisive

I know you are looking for a Z3 - but I have been watching this for a while.
For a Z4 it is in an unusual colour rather than the "silver"
Nice interior and quite low miles

Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
........ IMO the Z4 interior would likely put me to sleep....sooooo boring...... I did however watch a USA motoring show where a Z4 owner had the dash and console given a "wood" finish paint treatment - he reckoned a roadster had to have a wood finish to be a roadster, and I can empathise with that - It turned out really well and I was suitably impressed with the end result. It was an excellent paint job by a true "artist" and heavily coated with clear coat to give it the depth one once saw on the the real wood in Jaguars etc. It certainly improved on the boring stretch of ally which leaves me feeling disinterested..
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
Do you know, that is just the thing that puts me off "upgrading" to a Z4 - the interiors are just so bland. Having said that some of the more basic Z3s have uninspiring interiors too.Southernboy wrote:........ IMO the Z4 interior would likely put me to sleep....sooooo boring...... Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
yep....it really needs something to make it more "retro roadster"..... I've seen more interesting 1950's Toyota interiors.....
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
If I was to head down the route of the Z4 I would likely go for an Alpina Roadster S or Z4m, however having had a good look over one of the latter I just couldn't see the appeal compared to a Z3... my good wife has encouraged me to stick to my guns and remain patient, so where are all the tidy 3.0 Sports??
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
The Alpina is special thing indeed. They do shift too.
The Z4M was a step back in 'specialness' and one of the most subdued looking M's.
Would need some work to make it 'special' looking in my opinion. No doubt it's a great driven though...
But I'd still take a Z3M just for the classic looks..

Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
You can buy my pristine 54,000 mile Topaz Blue/cream leather 3.0 M Sport if the price is right.
I will buy another as a project, as l like working on cars and this one needs nothing.
It's a manual with all the options, aircon, cruise, heated seats, hardtop, wind deflector, tonneau, sports seats, etc and is a show winning example with not one single stone chip (l have cups and photos from shows l have entered)
I spent over £1,500 on detail items to make it perfect, such as new wheel nuts and centre caps, new sill tread plates, door seals, various plastic parts, sidelights, bolts and screws, switches, genuine BMW overmats (the last OE set ever!) front bumper resprayed at BMW dealer etc

Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
I'm interested. PM sent
Re: WTB - Z3 3.0i - Anyone fancy selling?
yalden - I may be (and it's a big maybe because I do love it) - but I MAY be considering selling mine soon - for a number of reasons. Cost of running and cost of bits I want to replace with genuine OEM parts being the main factors.
The spec is:
3.0i non-sport
Sapphire black metallic
bridgestone tyres all-round
Alloy-wheel 17" style 42 - bolted
Black classic leather heated sports seats (not-bad condition except drivers bolster)
Elec. folding soft-top
Air-con
Matt-chrome interior
M-sport steering wheel
6 cd changer
Headlight washers
on-board computer
roll-bars
done just over 100K - partial service history (BMW main dealer up to 50K-ish)
bad points: alloys could do with a refurb, headlights bit dull-looking, bonnet paintwork could do with detailing in places.
I just thought I would put it out there and see if this a spec that would appeal/similar to what you're looking for - gauge your interest. But as I say not a definate to sell - only a musing if you will at this stage
Thanks

Thanks to both of you for baring me in mind; at the moment I'm holding out for a hellrot 3.0, I'm hoping one might come up for sale as the weather picks up and the convertible market grows.
Good luck with both sales.

This thread can be closed now... finally made a purchase!
I gave up on a hellrot Z3 and was keen to buy JohnZ3's estoril sport but due to a family holiday I couldn't get to view it before it sold to bananasport.
Thankfully upon my return I found it's twin... perhaps not as good condition, just a few niggles to sort!
