Stone guards and Bonnet Bra's. Is it just me...?
Stone guards and Bonnet Bra's. Is it just me...?
I need your help here.
I dont get the deal with the stone guards; not only are they god awful to look at (i would rather see a slightly chipped rear arch) but a lot of people put them on already chipped rear quarters, totally pointless if you think about it (your protecting a previously violated surface)
Unless they were sprayed just before application, then it makes slightly more sense....but even this is comparible to getting a lovely new watch and wrapping it in ducktape to protect it.
Can someone please educate me on this stupidity, or else i shall continue in this charlie brooker type psyche for evermore.

E102, E104, E110 and E37
For me it was the fact that to have the stone chips resprayed I had to have half the doors done as well to blend the colour. So a few quid for a couple of Stone Guards, which don't look that bad (depending on car colour I guess), was more appealing that having to pay to have the car resprayed again.
As far a Bonnet Bras go, those I wouldn't touch with a Barge Pole, even though my bonnet is chipped again already

You will never understand everything in life.
Stone guards from Roadster Solutions in the States were one of the first things I brought for my Z. They set the car off like they do on the early wide body 911 Turbo, and are practical as well. Mine is the 2.8 pre-facelift wide arch model, I don’t know how well they fit the facelift model. There have been many brought off a forum member so I guess you will be in the minority
Yep. It's just you.
Aside from their practical origins, stone guards follow and complement the curves and contours of the Zed's hips perfectly. For me, they really highlight the sexy rear quarters of the Z3. Notice that for this reason, (AFAIK) you never see them on the Z4.
///Murf sprayed his stone guards in Estoril (to match his car, obviously) very successfully. You really couldn't see them if you didn't know they were there, so that's an option if you want the protection without the look.
As for bonnet bras...
They're very American and (just like speedster covers) definitely need to stay there!

The rear arch protectors was also the first thing I bought for the Zed. A must in my book if you care about the cars paintwork. If you wait for the damage to be done thinking a respray is the answer then , I'm a firm believer in once the car receives paint, it never looks as good unless a complete respray.
I been thinking of getting the bonnet bra as well, yes it looks rubbish but who cares if you only fit on the odd long trip, motorways etc. Its not as if its permanent and it has a great feature in that its removeable I think some owners are a bit vain and worry too much their Zed will look pants
