COLD AIR INTAKE - The last laugh

Post by Southernboy »

Here's an interesting bit of information regarding all those guys that have fitted Cold Air Intake (CAI) systems to their 6 cyl cars....if you have a look at your intake throttle mechanism from the front, and at the bottom, you will see 2 rubber hoses attached to it...these are part of the water cooling system of hoses, and they pass through the intake throttle...this is to heat up the air before it passes into the intake manifold. It also serves as a heating mechanism for the throttle specifically for cars driven in sub-zero climates....this prevents the throttle mechanism freezing up and sticking...But the rub of it is that it also heats up any air passing through the throttle...Next time you go out for a drive, stop off, open the hood, and feel how extremely hot that throttle is...defeats the whole point of a CAI....
Here in SA, where the temp very seldom drops below zero for any length of time, these hoses can be done away with / blocked off...this will improve the density of air passing through the throttle and into the intake manifold by some 70 - 80 degrees C. For you guys in the colder climates....unlucky!
