320 vs 340mm rid steering wheels

Post by Dino D »

Has anyone experience of both sizes on a Z?
I've seen the articles for the 340mm just wondering what the 320mm vs 340mm is like in terms of feel, steering effort, impact on steering response etc.

Edit: should say 'Raid' steering wheels like these http://www.tuning-rdi.de/product_info.p ... 9-94-.html

I run a 340mm on my Z3 and 360mm on my porsche........

The 320mm would be too small for the Z3 and obscure the dials IMHO, a 340mm is perfect IMHO. Don't fall into the trap of thinking it's only 10mm each side as that makes a massive difference in terms of turning effort and feel.

Ps I fitted the larger wheel on the porsche as that has much heavier steering and was worried 340mm would be too much n that.

Stock 380mm to 340mm makes a massive prove meant to the steering feel and feedback, 320mm would be too much like a go cart and actually make he steering too sensitive.

Hi Jontt,
I read your very useful article and Mikes, luckily mine is stage 1 airbag so simple.

My car is quite sharp already with coilovers and lower profile wheels so would want it too pointy but can do with improvements for sure.

The 320mm seems a lot more available new and used...

On Raid's site they have the 320mm with hub adaptor for Z3 at €399 but don't show another size option for the combination.
Doing it separately works out more so I've emailed them to find out if they will do the the 340mm at a similar price.

320mm is way too small, for both look and feel.

I hope your german is good as their English is not brilliant.

Try carnewal, although Gert is a porsche specialist they are the same wheel and he will be able to source you the Z3 hub if needed. His English is good and he has a great rep in porsche circles.

The other option is keep your eyes open on german ebay

I can't reiterate enough 320mm is too small for a Z3, there is a reason they are cheaper lol
