Hi,
Would anyone happen to know what grade of oil BMW originally used inside the trailing arms and what amounts they used?
I can't find it in Bentleys or online.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: What oil to refill trailing arms?
Hi all,
Perhaps I should be a bit clearer. On the rear trailing arms there is a plug. When removed you can pour out an amount of what looks and smells like differential oil.
I did I this whenI had the diff carrier and trailing arms powder coated as the process requires 200 degrees to melt the paint.
I can only presume that BMW did this to prevent rusting inside the hollow arms.
I have asked BMW UK but the Techs didn't know and I don't know any American BMW original builders of the Z3
If anyone knows please let me know.
Sounds picky I know but if I can put back what was there, particularly weight wise it would be great.
Thanks again.

Re: What oil to refill trailing arms?
Hi Brian,
Yes I guess so, I have loads of it. I just thought I'd ask to see if anyone knew what BMW used and put back what was original. To be honest I was a bit surprised to see it coming out of the arm when I pulled the plug out and the reason for it being there.
Thanks Brian.

First I've heard of something like this, normally box sections would be wax injected, it makes no sense to oil fill it as it would just eventually leak out/add weight.
DINITROL is very good, it comes with a straw and can get in every nook and cranny you need, then sets as a semi-solid brown wax.
