Z engine

Hi,
can any of you knowledgeable members tell me whether a 320i or 520i engine of the same year can be fitted to my manual 2.2 Z3 2002 E46 M54.
I have been offered an auto engine but also been warned not to fit a single vanos unit ??

Have a look at the link below, it is a wikipedia entry so it is not gospel but gives you an idea of the range of cars the M54B22 engine was installed within.

To make things as smooth as possible I would be looking to replace like for like, but as you have mentioned before you are not scared of a challenge.

most grateful for the info -I am sure it can be made to fit -I am a committed believer that you can put any engine in any car -just like to get this one done quickly and my wife off my ear asap.
The only concern i have is converting from auto to manual 'though have done this before to RV8's/Anglias and stags etc
