What Have u Done to your Z this past 7 days ?

Post by mrluke »

Having been off for a bit from uni ive done quite a few things.

fitted rollbars to my non rollbar car ( bought all pannels and rollbars and screws for £200 ebay bargin :D )

registerd and fitted my Luke number plate to my car :D

removed and sold my clarion indvd car player (using a panasonic deck for the moment)

cleaned it twice !!! once with the flashcar wash system lol ! and then i decided to do it properly ....

Things to do in school brake in 2 weeks time :D

contemplating fitting chrome handles ? im unsure as i have chrome vents on the side.. and dont want the car looking like a halfords reject so im undecided .

im gonna get a new cd/dvd player .. currently looking for one with bluetooth thats a good brand .. unsure as of yet.

ive also though about having clear indicators , rear lights etc .. but then thought its so much hassle considering the yellow ones dont look tht bad on a topaz.

any one got any suggestions ? and what have u done in the past 7 days

My goodness - you have been busy.

All I have done with mine is wash it and drive it once.

Few miles just.

Well done, very impressed - what will you do when it's all finished?

I got my Z-fix by going for some hood down driving on Sunday around the local lanes for an hour or so, then washed the Z ready for it's weekly duty as the wife's commuting car.

Hi,

Sure I sent the PM but never mind.

I would like to meet up to have a look at your Roll Bars as I am keen on getting some. Mine is a 1997 2.8 with no roll bars.

I also have chrome side vents and door handles so you could have look.

Waterside Fram woud be good.

Have fitted the chrome handles to my black Z3. Its got the chrome gills, and doesn't look like it went through halfrauds covered in superglue! It looks great when its washed polished and waxed, and it really helps draw the eye around the Zed.

thats good 2 know ! thank you.

the black handles do look a bit dated and could do with some chrome covers.

From the sounds of it, Luke's done a good job on the roll bars. Especially the deal he got on the parts  .

Tbh Luke, the clear indicators look great on the Z, not to mention on blue ones. If you do them, you will definately feel it is worth it despite the hassle.

The chrome handles you were thinking of wouldn't be a bad idea imo. Having seen them on Shab's Z in person several times, and on PaulW's with the chrome side vents, it's making me want to get a set. They look very good. A bit of chrome is ok, and adding them with the chrome gills is not OTT.

Chrome wing mirrors on the other hand..... :head: that would be a bit much

My changes in the past week have been a complete change of bodywork (well it felt like it after the wash) from this:

Image

to this:

Image

and a little bit of tinkering with the stereo equipment in the boot as it looked like spaghetti junction with the wires all over the place. All nice and tidy now.

Plan to get the driver's airbag replaced as it's showing up a fault, get the alloys reconditioned, and possibly (if funds allow) get a summer set of alloys by may this year.

Liking the new avatar btw, glad to see someone else has the same suspension problems as my avatar

thanks for the input yet again justin , as always down to the bare point when explaining.

i have to agree the clear does look very nice , and i think i have been swaded on the chrome handles after looking at pictures etc.

only things that put me off on the clear lights side of things is having to bake the headlight to get the sealed unit apart ! lol the other 2 things look easy 2 do .

i just dont fancy shoving them nice expensive headlights in my even more expensive mums £1500 cooker.

also love the stubby arial btw . i like my long dangly one :D but its lookin a bit worse for ware as the rubber has degraded a bit

Using a heat gun instead is preferable so i hear. Alot more precise and less likely to mess your mum's new cooker up

Just this week i have made the incredibly dramatic decision to put in clear side repeaters. it's amazing, I think it's added 50bhp to the car...

Reversed it out of the garage, fitted 3 refurbished alloys, broke the last locking wheel nut, swore a lot, admired the three good wheels, drove back into the garage, called a mobile mechanic who will hopefully remove the last wheel and nut on Friday.

Couldn't enjoy the wonderful weekend weather - boo!

Next week a new Alcantara steering wheel is being fitted - feels soooo much better than the rather thin stock item (///M coloured stitching too) hope it fits!!

Current cost of bits to be done roughly £1500. Glad i had a pay rise at xmas

Hope you get it sorted. Paul got his wheels on the Lotus refrubished recently and that cost him £200.00, his car is alot older than yours so yours should be ok to do too. I can text you the number of the man that done it if you want?

Last 7 days? Well I was actually in the UK for part of last week, so the Z1 was dug out of hiding, relieved of its hard-top and driven. First around London and then up to Suffolk and back. With the roof down, and the doors when doing less than 50mph. Got spotted on the A12 by a friend of my flatmate who rang him to say he'd seen me since he could think of only one person who'd be driving a green Z1 with the doors down in January!
Currently: bereft of Z1
