ZRoadster Calendar 2010 - Your forum needs you!

Post by Robert T »

Hello all you ZRoadsterites,

Well here we again, and it's November already - where did the year go? After much pestering and general badgering it seems that a number of you would like to see another ZRoadster.net Calendar for 2010. I think you all know the formula by now, but for those that don't, we will be offering a calendar for sale made up using your photos. The calendar will professionally printed and bound, with a price set to pay for both the printing and to raise a little cash to keep our wonderful site going. As a reminder, here are a couple of the pages from last years calendar.

Image

Image

I am looking for submissions of photographs of all your zeds (Z1, Z3, Z4 and Z8 inclusive) to put into the calendar. Throughout the year a number of you have posted up some really stunning photos, so I would like to ask you to post just your best ones in this thread for consideration for the calendar, and for those who have been keeping their pictures to themselves, please please do post them up now. Unfortunately, without redefining the concept of a year, only 12 can be picked. There is no set theme, and I would like to use a mix photos of single cars, groups of cars, abstracts, meets, or just plain spectacular settings for zeds to be seen in - the only real mandatory element is that the pictures must be zed related.

In order to make the calendar work, I have to insist that all photos submitted must be landscape format (horizontal orientation) and have an unedited original available which is a minimum of 4 megapixels (about 2300 pixels across). This will ensure that we can print them at a decent size and quality. If we can manage this, I am hoping to make the calendar a little bit bigger than A4 this year.

Please post your entries in this thread, resized to around 800x600, for us all to see. Assuming your entry is selected, I will ask for the original image later. The only other requirement is that you must either own the copyright to the image or have permission to use it.

The closing date for entries is Monday 30th November 2009.

I can't wait to see all your pictures. As usual, I will update this thread with more information as we go along.

Edit: Knew there was something I'd forgotten - I will post ordering details in a separate thread after we've done the photo submissions bit.

Thanks R.

Z3 2.8 Progress Journal (Mine)
Z3 1.9 Sport Progress Journal (Wifey's)

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Yes, actually I am asking whether the car was resprayed - because the Z3 badge is not positioned correctly (these "faults" are often when respraying because the person, doing the respray isn't therall enough).
A simple test of lacquer thickness will solve the question floating in the air.

This is promo picture, check the position (if you want, I can find out where exactly (in mm) is positioned OEM).

Image

Total removal is an option - IMHO looks far better then with the badging.
And yes, I resprayed mine - I bought a second hand trunk lid with the rack (didn't want anyone fooling arround my original lid), resprayed it, and swaped it with the original.
:D

Your car looks really nice though. ;)

It could have been ordered "debadged" from the factory and a later owner added

There have been lots of stunning pictures posted this year (I agree Carlee's amongst the best) but I think an issue may be the required file size. I took quite a few with my "pocket" camera this year that turned out great but I have the resolution "turned down" so the file sizes are not too large restricting what I could pick from :bawl:

but there must be lots more that could be used so come on guys, don't be shy we need more variety to choose from :rtm:

just done some research and think your right the badge is too far right compared to factory fitted ones. so then rang previous owner and he says no respray whilst he was the owner and didnt hotice himself.
so then went to give the zed the once over ( it bugs me little mystery things like this ) cant find any evidence of respray around the boot area rear quaters or bumper. i had the zed prof detailed this summer and he commented on the great original paint condition and how hard it was to remove the light swirling. anyhow thanks Austin for pointing this out and for now i'll leave it badged and next year might try to get the position right.
sorry too for going off topic

jontt's car has to be in , maybe december as the red relates to santa's suit :roflmao: maybe if a bit of tinsel from the mirror to add to the theme

It was a concious decision to ask for higher resolution pics this time as we had some issues over resolution (or rather lack thereof) in previous years - it really will take 4 megapixels if the calendar is going to be bigger than A4. Yes, I know this will exclude some otherwise good shots, but I think most of us have at least one camera that is more than this now - even my phone has a 5MP camera on it! You will just have to learn to keep the res turned up on your compact, Jon.

Carlee's pics look to have been taken with an SLR and I wouldn't be surprised if they were 10MP on more, so I don't think there will be a size issue there. If you want to see one in the calendar, then I suggest that one of you PMs him and asks him if he's willing. If he didn't take the photos himself, then we also need permission to use them.

At the moment I still have 12 pages to fill and need as many pics as possible, so please please keep posting them up. Many thanks for the ones posted so far - some excellent ones in there.

Thanks R.

Rob, was not meant in critiscm in any way, just explaining why we might not see some otherwise excellent shots posted this year. I think your right from memory Carlee's shots were a professional job.

Austin, come on, you have some of the best shots so get them posted

Two of the piccies for last years calendar required permission and didn't cause too many headaches - one photographer wanted a mention, the other a PDF of the calendar so he could see the results. Doesn't mean to say that all photographers are as easy to please, but it certainly proves that it is possible to use them. They don't tend to mind things with limited print runs like our calendar - what they don't want is someone getting rich off their images - we aren't doing this for a profit (other than the upkeep of the board). It helps me to know if we have to wait for permission though, as there is a limit to how long we can wait.

I do like those piccies though - nice action shots - showing what zeds were meant for... which is driving. :drive

Cheers R.

He's a friend of the BMW Car Club, so I'd hope he'd be ok. Pity one's with the top up, but nice action shots on my fave road too!

Need more Z4's and a Z8 would be nice too.

I really love that pale yellow Z1!
