private plate opinions
I have to say if anyone is looking to get plates made up then check out a guy on e bay called 'activesec' He made me a pair of plates for £7.50 including postage, they arrived 2 days later and they are top quality, my local motor factor would want another £13 on top of that price and they are nowhere near as good.
thats a brill price tori, i paid £20 for mine to be made up by some inernet site. i did have blue border and zroadster.net on the bottom though. very pleades with too.
sorry for poor pic it was with my phone ....

Please help. The money will go to a good cause. email me for the link to my fundraising page.
yes i knew about that prior to having them done. they do have the british standard numbers etc. i sort of thought that its not to obvious like your name or football club or some other slogan and maybe a traffic cop might just think zroadster.net is a website where number plates can be purchased. here's to hope
see how it goes hey. but thanks anyway geoff

It doesn’t have to be a garage, but it must give the name of the maker or supplier of the plates, with their full postcode.Geoff H wrote:You could have a problem with the ZRoadster logo, it has to be a garage name to be legal, My eldest son got a ticket for the same sort of thing
I’m afraid any mis-spacing or mis-representation of letters and numerals gets a definite from me.
By definition, a car number is an identifying mark, and I think it is perfectly reasonable that the authorities (and especially the police, who have the job of tracking down villains in cars) take a dim view of any attempts to disguise a given mark or make it misleading.
Not that I have anything against cherished or personalised numbers in principle – these are my two, and we have several others in the family.
Hi guys - quick personal plate question. Spotted a plate I like with my initials for a reasonable price - is currently on retention until next year and assignment fee has been paid. What does the latter mean? With this in mind, is there anything extra to pay to get the plates on my Z3? (DVLA seems to be currently blocked at work )
Cheers!
Cheers!
good call Daz but the previous owner has to have the same initials.
think though the boys in blue will know how long you had the car and when you did the reg transfer change as this type of info is available to them and to anyone who searches.
not sure about plates on retention , the assignment fee i believe is the actual transfer to your car. thinks its £80
as for the zroadster logo i will just act daft , which i do well and blame the plate manufactures for saying they were legal and im so very sorry officer.

Got these from fancy plates.com can't remember how much they were.
So far so good with the Boys in Blue
The letters and spacings haven't been messed about with and there is no flag on the left hand side. I think their nicely subtle Am now wondering what Canmans middle name could be

I want to find a plate for my Griffith, never liked private plates but I just don't like mine (weird I know) plus the rear is tatty and needs to be replaced anyway, so thought I might as well look at getting a private one at the same time.
Looking at 500, GRF, TVR my initials etc but just can't settle on one! And no before anyone mentions it I haven't looked at "AA" or "RAC"

I spent weeks staring at the DVLA site. A mate in the office came up with the perfect one after 10mins thinking. I couldn't figure how I hadn't spotted it. Shame I had to let that go with the car I put it on.smartypants wrote:Looking at 500, GRF, TVR my initials etc but just can't settle on one!
Current plate on my 5 series means something to me. Got another couple of ideas lined up for the Z but not desperately obvious. Probably going for a plate which is 1 character off what I have on the 5 (when I have some spare cash of course...)!

Hmmm - I wouldn't recommend trying that "it passed the MoT" line, else you could find yourself taking another one real soon!Daz2626 wrote:Geoff H wrote:You could have a problem with the ZRoadster logo, it has to be a garage name to be legal, My eldest son got a ticket for the same sort of thing
If you get pulled, say they were on when you bought the car, and it passed it's M.O.T with em
Be nice and polite, and carry your legal road plates in the boot, in case you forget to take your show plates off....
(Unless they're 'German' style - then you're having a ticket!! )

The 11 plates have been released today. What a frustrating website the dvla one is. Anyway after 90 mins of trying, finally managed to get the plate I have been waiting 10 years for ! Sad I know !
My wife is Gail and I am Jas so;
GA11 JAS
fits the bill.
It will never see the cold light of day on a zed though
If we get divorced, she gets GA11 and I get JAS, sorted !
Cheers

As a result of reading this thread and looking at the DVLA web site I am now £400 poorer... in fact SK11NTT!!!
There are some cracking plates on there today, being the first day of release of the 11 plates. There are some pretty good looking investments to be had if you get in early and are prepared to keep a plate on retention for a couple of years. Got to be a better bet than putting money in the bank for a 2% return.

I got an irish plate on ebay for £30, did cost £80 to transfer. But with a random T plate wanted to update the car and with a little spacing adds a little to the car. In Devon and not been stopped or even see many an enforcer, so for the price was happy. It Me Z3 initt..
ME Z3 822
If I could spend a few more quid the would have add some initials, but for the price more than happy and sure it might help a resell if I ever decide... Of course have the MEZ 3822 in the boot as I forgot to change them since the show..
That's harsh getting fined.
I got pulled last year for (amongst other things) having an illegally spaced number plate. The officer let me off with a warning. Cue gratuitous shot of my old 'toy', an R1 engined Fisher Fury, sold last year to get the Z3M -

the irish ones are the way to go for us because they get away with having a Z in the lettering
the bloke i got mine from (ON Z3 007) was brilliant family business and was all done in about 6 weeks think i paid 90 quid for that plus 80 reg fee but well chuffed with it

Except you can't put a new plate on an older car. i.e. anything made before this year..simonbud100 wrote:As a result of reading this thread and looking at the DVLA web site I am now £400 poorer... in fact SK11NTT!!!

Personally, I don't like private plates unless it's something really relevant to the car without needing spaced show plates.
My car came with M30 YOY (which spaces to M3 OY OY )
Stuck it onto regtransfers to sell for me straight away. Looking forward to getting a standard aged plate now, and a bit of cash too
