Carwash, Soft Top?

Post by Hard Top »

Have just seen a Z3, in a long line of cars so I did not have time to hang about, waiting to go through the automatic carwash at my local petrol station
In my opinion, it seems a bit risky, but maybe the owner has done it before?

I think in the manual :rtm: it actually says you can put it through a car wash. :!:
Although I certainly would never do it.

It'd be fun to see if the driver had the guts to stay IN the Zed whilst it was being washed....

I've read this 3 times.... where does it say it was a woman in the car :puzzle:

I'd be more inclined to think it was a bloke.... you should have stayed to see if he got out dry.

Yep, that's the last post I'll make here. Of the four or five automotive forums I post on daily, Z3 drivers are, on the whole, the most unreceptive to a little sarcasm and I've had my fill of humourless indignance.

What Estocks said is true though - there are a lot of peeps on here that take themselves far too seriously - naturally most of these do seem to be women, either by genetics or nature - it's difficult to tell on a forum.

Ok, difficult, delicate, difficult, how should I put this down in writing on this thread :?: :puzzle:
Ok, here we go then (deep breath)

estocks hit the nail on the head with his joke.

I did not write about this in my OP, as I new there was a very good possibility that I would get nuked. :(
As I was filling up my car, I saw the owner/ driver of the Z3 standing next to the open drivers door, eating an ice cream.
The owner/driver was looking at my car and I thought, ok, when I have finished up here, I will nip over for a quick chat,
and a look at the car, and enquire about the fact that the car was just about to go through a carwash.

So I waved at the owner/driver. :wave

End Game. :!:
The slightly blond, with sun glasses on top of head, lady owner/driver, gave me one of the most dirty looks I have ever received.
The shades went back down on the nose, and she turned her back on me (I am not that ugly, honest)
So, you know what, I thought, sod you, and drove off. :bad

estocks hit the nail on the head with his joke.
Could someone please explain how "Women. Lazy." is funny?

IMO it was an ill judged remark by a valuable member of this forum and was quite rightly and very politely challenged by snoops.
Perhaps we can learn from this that sometimes a remark that could perhaps be OK when said with a smile in general conversation should be considered very carefully before being printed.

From what of seen of Zed owners as a whole, most of them are clearly not on this forum from my neck of the woods, and they clearly don't buy a Zed for the pure pleasure of owning and driving one with the hope of meeting up and enjoying the Zed life with other owners.
I think i'm right in saying that mainly those forum members who post regularly on here are keen and loyal Zedders, good on you. If you play with fireworks you're going to get burnt one day, aka, if you post and read forums youre going to get offended or upset by something somebody posts one day. If you cant stand the heat ............yadda yadda.
I wouldnt wish to see any forum member wishing not to post because of a diagreement. Estocks may or may not be right or wrong, but I think he is a valued and likeable forum member. Estocks come back, many forum members would miss your valuable and humerous tripe. :|

I can see it won't be long before all the headlight flashing/waving will get somebody in trouble, (resent example http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopi ... 617#242617 ) somebody will misunderstand what is going on and thump them (man) or report them (woman) for harassment, As I have put in other posts the Z3 is a mass produced car, and unlike us, most owners are not enthusiasts. You don't see Mondeo owners or even other BMW models waving/flashing at each other.

I agree with you sentiments wanting estocks to return.
He has been of great help to me and others with his technical knowledge.
However, he has clearly offended Snoops, even though his comment may have been said in jest.

How long is it since anyone read (and agreed to) the registration rules I wonder?
FYI:

You agree, through your use of zroadster.net, not to annoy other
participants with inflamatory or disparaging remarks that are intended to
start a flame war, and in particular, not post messages that could be
construed as being of a derogatory sexual or racial nature.

I'm not offended - I thought I was missing somewhere in the thread that it said it was a woman. I also was more inclined to think it was some macho man who would try that.

Have to agree with DC though - clearly don't share estocks and HT's sense of humour ... Women, Lazy... fail to see the joke in that no matter how much I try.

Well now HT has explained it was a woman and the fact that she was slightly blonde (mustn't forget that bit must we) then that explains it all.

I don't want to be the final straw that causes a valuable member to leave the forum so I'll bow out.

It was nice meeting the members I have met and it was lovely to be part of Newby.

Happy zedding everyone. :drive

I would urge you not to, I for one always enjoy reading your posts and consider you to be a great contributor to this forum.
You made a very relevant point, inoffensively and with good humour and certainly should not feel uncomfortable with that.

I'm just hoping I misunderstood and that you only intend to bow out of this particular thread.

Is the point not that Estocks' comment was blatantly not serious - hence the devil head emoticon - Yet someone gets on the anti sexism soap box and obviously take the huff.

If you don't find it amusing, fine, just ignore it, but why be obviously "hostile"?

DC raises a good point, often an issue in internet forums. I've pondered on this many times and wonder whether we have lost the art of written communication or is it just that on the whole life bears so many stresses that we are all coming closer to flash point?

Don't disappear over this either of you.

As an aside, you rarely hear of fat bald geezers taking the hump over being the butt of a joke so why IS it that women react so? Oh and yes I have a smile on my face as I write this.........

This is the second time an issue like this has cropped up recently with members being offended by a supposedly "sexist" comment which was meant in a light hearted jest and not aimed at anyone.
I love reading the posts on this site and I enjoying sharing my experiences with the Zed forum and meeting other like minded people whenever I can.
What I dont like is the PC (politically correct) world that I (we) now live in. At work you now how have to think of every word and sentence you say before saying it just in case it upsets someone stood nearby who maybe listening in on your conversation and finds it offensive :x If you dont you risk being sacked :? The world has truly gone mad with the PC brigade, and it's not one I like very much.
This forum for me was a place to escape that PC mad world we live in,it was a place where we can be a little tongue in cheek with each other and with no offense taken, and without the fear of being reprimanded.
It seems though that the PC world has started to chip away at this forum to.
Shame.

Wow, and I never bothered reading this thread before today because I thought it was about washing Z3's in a car wash and I assumed the obvious "thats stupid" point had already been made but 20+ posts later I wondered if it was actually being debated good/bad idea

I'm disappointed on several counts

Because I've seen what damage they can do to them !

My bosses father owns one of the biggest warranty companies in the country and you would not believe how many people try to claim for soft top roofs after a trip through a car wash

If your lucky enough to not have the canvas ripped off have you seen the swirls marks they cause, what do they do to the rear screen

In fact putting any car through a car wash is detrimental to the car. I say that putting my daily driver through a car wash every month. It is covered in swirl marks some of which are pretty deep. My last BMW before that (5 years ago) actually had to have the bonnet resprayed after a trip through a Sainsbury car wash.

They are convenient but they do damage any car. My daily driver is a company car so I just don't care but there is no way I would ever put a car I actually owned through one.

One second thoughts there was one I used years ago that was "non contact", it worked with purely a robotic arm and high pressure hose and did a pretty good job but I've never seen another and it closed down years ago.

I dread to think whats in the chemicals they use but I think its a fair bet they strip the wax. Hopefully someone wth more knowledge can educate me ?

Yepp I would never ever put any car through a car wash, I went slightly pale and then grey when my local dealer did a courtesy wash on the 1er after a Service, I was pawing over the paintwork for days looking for swirl marks

I will say for those that use car washes whether male or female yepp its lazyness, sorry thats way I see it, so a sexist remark for both sexes

Regarding remarks on here, mostly its all light heartedness and no harm done, it would take a hell of a lot to offend me as its just an internet forum at the end of the day, although its great to meet owners through this forum  On the internet there is no eye contact so you can never realistically judge a situation, whether intentional or not. Only time I took offence was when I was receiving PM's with insults that became personal in nature.

I would say lighten up a bit and enjoy some humorous banter

not even the nice eastern europeans get near my car with there hand jobs  i have one within a stone throw from my house and i see some really nice cars there. some just dont care. what a shame .

Fair do's if you wouldn't take any car through a car wash - I would and do but then to me a car is just a car.
I would never have thought to take a soft top though one though - but now I know it says it's OK to in the handbook - who knows - or I might stick with the local "hand car wash" place - Wash & vac for a tenner while I get a cooked breakfast and read the paper - nice way to pass an hour on a Saturday morning.

Each to their own :) but pleasure for me would be passing an hour or two cleaning and polishing the Zed on the drive.
Yesterday morning mine got a full autoglym hood clean. Alloys cleaned, car washed then a full clay bar going over followed by another wash, then dried and finished with a complete going over with Maguires NXT.
Looks beautiful now, but will look even better next week once the front bumper has been resprayed and refitted :D
