WHAT EXACTLY IS THE PROBLEM?

IT CRANKS OVER FOR A LONG TIME BEFORE STARTING? OR IT WON'T TURN OVER OR WHAT?

And please could you stop shouting - it's too early in the morning.

Cheers R.

How far are you driving the car?
This time of year the battery takes a lot of
punishment especially on short trips with lights and radio etc ,you may need to put it on charge over night now and again

starting problems

Post by kp »

Im having problems in the morning starting my z3, it sounds like the battery is flat, but it isnt as i tested it before i started the car, and there is nothing draining the battery at night

I had this problem last year in the winter, but in the summer months it starts fine, i travel a 30 mile trip each day to work.

The car sounds like the battery is running flat but it eventually starts after several turns and after pumping the accelarator to get it going.

I had the same symtoms on my old MX5. Summer no problem to start, come
the colder mornings battery very sluggish.
I frabricated an insulated blanket for the battery to isolate it from any cold
surface proximity, out of one of those foam type camping rolls I had lying around.
No more sluggish battery and I believe it was an original supplied with the car
direst from Japan (15 years old).
I intend to have a look at insulating the Z's battery in the same fashion.
A bit of preventative maitenance ........... :)
