I must be getting really over the hill...

What is it with these people and spam, I fail to understand the point of the exercise. Is it sexual? Is there some underground club to get brownie points from? It all seems so utterly futile to my way of thinking. Does anybody know what they're getting off on..?

Perhaps they're just naughty boys and girls! In which case they need a damn good kicking..!

Rant over. Feel better now.

Its just this sort of crap.

Forum spam is the creating of messages that are advertisements or otherwise unwanted on Internet forums. It is generally done by automated spambots.
Most forum spam consists of links to external sites, with the dual goals of increasing search engine visibility in highly competitive areas such as weight loss, pharmaceuticals, gambling, pornography, real estate or loans, and generating more traffic for these commercial websites.
Some of these links contain code to track the spambot's identity if a sale goes through, when the spammer behind the spambot works on commission.

Hi Hardtop

Spam is a fact of life it seems these days.
I feel its worse than the crap letters that come through the door.
We get rid of it, and some clever dick will find away
to annoy us :head:

A good start would be to get a mod for phpBB that puts a CAPTCHA on the registration page (the squiggly writing that computers can't easily read). Would eliminate automated signups atleast.

Only if you have nothing of value to add! (I do appreciate the irony of my own post here  )
