Old toys....

Post by Z3cade »

Thought of starting a thread for us crazy zed lot where we could show off our past loves... or even our other loves that we have in the garage next to the Zed... ;-)

i get the feeling that most of us on here are pure petrol heads and really love our motors..
It would be great to see what else you have pampered over the years and great to hear your thoughts on these machiens...

Im not asking for a list of ALL your past cars just the one or two that you have conected with in the past, your old favourite that maybe you still wish you had...

Just a few pics and write up on what you liked about them would be great ;-)

Look forward to seeing them....

Liam

Heres mine 8-)

1986 Honda Crx Mk1 1.6 16v

The car was totaly original apart from the alloys and completely Rust FREE!!.. It had been stored for 7 years by the previous owner who planed to keep it for his dauter when she past her test but upon her passing she couldnt get insured on it! so he then decided to sell it.... :head:

Now at the time i was a huge Honda crx fan having owned a Mk3 (del-sol) then a Mk2... (complete rust bucket) I saw this pop up on ebay and had to have it!! so i trundled off to Coventry and picked it up!!!

Now having owned both the mk2 and mk3 i can say hand on heart that the mk1 was the best of the bunch... Pure drivers car.. lightweight, handled like a go-cart, the steering screamed at you and bolt action gearchange...
It was a real pleasure to own and drive.... i just only wish that i had kept it :bawl:

And the best part of all was i only paid £800 for it!!!!! why oh why didnt i keep it!!!! :head:

Here she is....

Mine was JRR 533D - beige 1966 Series IIA Land Rover. Complete with overdrive (4 and a 1/2 forward gears!) and free wheeling hubs.

It was a nightmare to keep in a straight line on the road, had ridiculous accleration, had little in the way of suspension and brakes.

But the 2.25l petrol engine purred like the day she was put together. The journey on the way home from collecting her put a huge smile on my face, which was only bettered by the Zed.

I'll try and dig out some pictures, when I find them. Like all Landies it spent most of the time being tinkered with to keep it running.

I nicknamed it Binky. For anyone who reads from the Discworld series - Death rode a pale horse called Binky. So bloody apt. Stick it on the road at 75 (and yes she would do that) and it felt like death was with you in the passenger seat :D

Brilliant. Next Land Rover I buy will be a Series I.

Unfortunately no photographs of my oldest toy - didn't have a camera as I'd spent all my pennies on the car.

1939 Standard 8 bought in 1969 for £12 10s 0d - my first car. Reg LPA 493. It was only after I sold it and was handing over the log book that I realised it had been registered on 5 September 1939 - the day war was declared - should have kept it but the offer of a replica D Type was just too tempting IIRC that Reg was YUB 671.

Ah the memories!
Here's my fave two wheeler - a 1972 Commando. Paid £450 for this back in 1979. Gave me loads of pleasure. Metallic brown and zinc coated frame. Sadly caught fire and burnt to a crisp on the A31. :( Kept one of the pistons as an ash tray for many years.

Image

Then there was the 'Bean' A 1967 Land Rover 2A SWB
Great fun. I put some boards in the back and used it as a very cramped camper and spent two weeks touring Scotland

Very Nice Mick...

Think we have it right Mick, a nice car for the roads and a nice boat for the fun of it, where is she moored? or do you trail it?
