Apart from your Zed whats the best motor you've owned?
I don't mean the fastest, swankiest vehicle you've owned but one that you would either reccommend or just enjoyed owning or driving?
My daily drive for instance, a Y reg Citroen Berlingo Van 2.0hdi hasn't had a drop of oil for 2 years was last serviced........err......sometime ago, has cost me a couple of tyres, fuel pump and some discs/pads..but is still a pleasure to drive. Drivers door lock gone. Paint dull, seat a bit flat, but great to own a motor that you don't have to worry about.
Other faves........
Merc Sprinter hi-top, 4 metre bed van. A real king of the road........
Capri Mk2.....I was a sales rep and everybody else had Cortinas..
Escort XR3i.........don't knock em. Proper 'reem'.......

Hi
In my younger Days
I had a 998 Austin Mini Cooper it seemed so fast at the time,
you couldnt pull away without the wheels spinning
I used it mainly to travel to work, about 2 miles
But at weekends I used the Ford Zodiac, which had bench seats,
column chage, a four speed straight six.
It was so much like the big americans cars of the day.
it had loads of chrome, two tone colour.
When I look back I was only 19ish and I saved the money for
these cars, and had all the running costs,
Most of my mates had their parents old cars " for free"
Those were the Days
I must add these cars were not new ones
just looked after

E46 330i ///Msport Cabrio in Monaco blue.
Bought it with 9k on the clock and sold it with just under 20k after 3 years.
Absolutely immaculate.
So so comfortable, a great drive and classic timeless lines.
Sold it a couple of months ago coz it was just sitting in the garage depreciating and it isn't the right car for me just now. I was very sad to see it go, but at least it went to someone who was really excited and keen to keep it in top condition.
BMW got it spot-on with the E46.

My 2002 E39 525d SE was a blinder. It's the only car I've got rid of that I actually miss, traded it in for my Cooper (although it got written off before the ink was dry on the deal )
The 6cyl diesel engine was superb. The spec was huge, had everything except sat nav. Would sit on the motorway all day with the cruise control on. Averaged 44mpg over the 15months I had it.
It was nicknamed "the wife", which is why the Z3 is "the mistress".

Choice of 2:
First car bought in 1969 was a 1939 Standard that cost £12-10s-0d - used to drive from Manchester (home) to Guildford (uni) and the record was being stopped 7 times on one journey to be asked "You got an MoT for this?". Wooden floor, rod and cable brakes and only one accident when I was stationary and a police car reversed into me.
Current daily driver: Jan 03 Citroen C5 2.2 hdi automatic everything, bought in Feb 06 with 21k on the clock now just past 108k. Total cost (including the original price, fuel, repairs, insurance, etc, etc) £23.5k income from car allowance (after tax) plus business miles @40p/m £27k. As I've now retired I'm taking the view that the next 2 to 3 years driving (61 miles this week instead of 300+) have effectively already been paid for.

I've owned so many.
Had 2 x mint Mk1 MR2's.
Had an official UK import Celica GT4 Carlos Sainz
My MR2 rev 3 Turbo
My Honda Integra Type-R
It simply has to be the Integra Type-R. No other car I have ever owned has been engineered to such a high degree. The specific and strict engine technology it used. The suspension configuration, the brakes, the handling, the build quality and the complete purity of driving that it gives. Nothing else I have ever driven comes close.
It's not the fastest 0-60 but it totally shames many cars more powerful when it comes to the handling.

1986 205Gti bought it in '89 and traded in for a brand new Suzuki Swift Gti in '91 which was my first new car.
Both cars were great but the 205 was iconic and although had suspect build quality it was a fantastic car to drive and I loved it. It's one of those cars you look back at and wish you could own again given the opportunity.

One of the cars I forgot about was the excellent Peugeot 106 Rallye S1 1.3. Cheery Red mine was. I bought aftermarket wheels for it. Removed the graphics and had a spoiler pro-fitted to the top of the tailgate. It looked great but in hindsite I wish I'd left it alone and kept it longer.
8350rpm from that little car was great and the handling was amazing.

Mine has to be a Lotus Cortina I owned back in the 1960's, it was a 1966 Mark 1. These cars sell for a lot of money now.
The reason I got the Lotus Cortina was after seeing Jim Clark going round South Bank at Brands Hatch with one front wheel lifting of the track chasing Jack Brabham in his big engined Ford Galaxie. I knew then this was the car I wanted. When I got one a year later I loved it and my Z3 gives me the same feeling when I look at it and drive it.
Those were the days when F1 drivers also took part in other races on the Grand Prix day too.

Mine would be the 205 Gti 1.9 as well, limited edition in laser green with green and black half leather seats. Reg was J202JCW absolutely loved that that car. It was my first car after starting work and took months to find. It went like stink, which is what the nice policeman said to me when he eventually caught me on the M6
I had to think about this and came to the conclusion that the car I liked the most, before owning the Z, was the Mercedes 230CE Coupe that I owned in the mid 90's.
It was a real cruiser and with all the windows down (pillarless) and the sun roof open we had some great road trips.
This is not a pic of my car, as I would have to scan them and my scanner has just given up the ghost, but its very similar.
I chose this photo as there is a Z3 for sale in the background......wait for it........
02-1997 Z3 1.8 -- Asking price Euro 9.850,- without the hardtop.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..
For me it'd be my previous car: an 08 Audi TT.
It ran perfectly for the two years that I had it, came with plenty of creature comforts of good quality, and the 2.0T engine gave plenty of kicks. Steering it precisely was an easy task, and it could take corners like it was on acid.
I miss it, but don't regret moving to a Z.

Has to be MkIII RS Turbo fiesta, it broke every week cost me a fortune to run, maintain and insure.
It was gun metal grey with custom leather interior with a proven 170bhp @ 18 I literally though i was the dogs danglies!!! after a third turbo and an imploded bottom end I drove it to the scrappy and watched it get crushed just so no one else could own it.
Bought a two tone one after that with custom paint job (this was before chavs lol).

Fully agree out of all the fast hatchbacks (Except the Mk2 Golf) my 205GTI was the best car ever, very easy to tuneup and if a car could be said to handle on rails this was it.aceman wrote:1986 205Gti bought it in '89 and traded in for a brand new Suzuki Swift Gti in '91 which was my first new car.

Always have a place in my heart for my Mk11 Escort, 1750 crossflow, twin webbers, big bore, forrest arches on a great set of compomotives and finished in Alpine White with all the RS gear, spoilers, recaros etc DB's.
Shall dig some photo's out next time at the old folks.
Had 3 mondeos from new.
Good value, reliable, handle well. Liked them very much as a daily driver.
At the weekend I borrowed my son's Audi A3 sport 1.8 turbo.
Very impressed indeed. At 90 uuuh... 70mph I mean on the motorway very quite, feels very very well made & solid.
Would cruise comfortably at 120mph I think if was legal here.
Great seats & steering & internal finish. Real feel of good quality. Nice size too. Small enough to be easy to chuck around a bit & be easy to park. Large enough & well made enough to feel like a good sized high quality saloon car.
Now you can get a decent one for 2 or 3k.
Jeez cars are so cheap.

My 05 reg Mini cooper, great fun on B roads. Never had anything go wrong on it and the MPG was great, a lot more forgiving too (not that I've done anything overly silly in the zed).
Would recommend it to anyone!

I must say i'm surprised that thus far there's not a Veedub fan in sight!
My first car, a 1500 Beetle, my second purchased car (I had company cars) was a Beetle and my last regular company car........a new shaped Beetle.
Very much an enthusiasts car for me and my brother but I accept now that they weren't the most advanced bit of kit on the road.
But no GTi ers on here either?

Well this was car number 4 in my stable, the only Car I never spent money on as a new house and baby took precedent, will post others when i find the photo's (shocking quality camera in those days) It is an RST Mk 2, dubbed the hair dressers car, heard that about another car we drive, i loved it! especially on a damp foggy morning:
This one was quite interesting as it was a CAT C car, it was actually stolen recovered, as you can see looked perfect with all original bits, I only had to buy the correct steering wheel, the previous owners just had to replace the Recaro Interior. (Best Seats I have ever sat in, and my now wife tried to escape from )

Citroën XM 2.0i 122 Prestige hatchback - miss it so much I'm probably buying one again - a 3.0 V6 24V soon - thinking about getting one from Germany or maybe Switzerland....
