SORN to Tax before 31 Mar and save £5

Postby pingu » Tue 27 Mar, 2012 14:48

I was going to wait until 1 Apr before I taxed the car, but did it this morning to make the most of the good weather and saved £5 :D .

Only problems were the external temperature gauge didn't work (now fixed), steering wheel misaligned (now fixed) and headlight needs to be aligned (to be done tonight when it's dark).

Done a bit of :drive and It goes like the proverbial  . A bit scary when I've had so many nuts and bolts off (I've got some spare if anybody wants some  )

How did you save £5? I was going to tax from 1st April and was wondering how I could tax it on a Sunday

Tax from today and it costs £215 (I effectively taxed it from the beginning of this month). Tax from 1 April and it costs £220.

I know that I have "wasted" 26 days, but I see it as enjoying the car for 4 extra days :D .

It's a nice attitude to have especially as the 26 days have cost you £15 so a net loss of £10 :(

But at least you get to enjoy this great spring weather :drive :thumb:

The car has been in bits for the last 6 months.

I put the last bolt on it this morning :D .

I thought that road tax went up on the day of the budget? :?

I was anxiously awaiting the reminder as you are not supposed to be able to tax a car more than 2 days before the tax is due to start if you take the V5.

Cheers R.

But now it runs out one month earlier,
5 months and 4 days for the price of 6........

Mine is due to start on 1st April after being SORN'd but I am not allowed to get the tax until Friday.... so does that mean I can drive it on Friday?

If it is illegal to use it before sunday then why wouldn't they let me tax it today. It will be no less legal today than it will be on friday :head:

I taxed for 12 months and will SORN it at the end of the month that winter starts. Last year, the tax ran out on 30 Sep and I SORN'd it. If you remember, October was glorious and I really wished I could still play with my toy.

Re taxing early. If you get 6 months' tax and it expires on 30 Sep, then you can use the car from midnight on 30 Mar/1 Apr. But I'm sure you knew that  .

You can tax online from the 5th of the previous month.
