TyrePal - Fitted Pics

Post by TitanTim »

Hi all,

Decided to treat the Z3 to a TyrePal TPMS as will be using it as the winter car for this year :)

http://www.tyrepal.co.uk/products/tpms- ... cification

Does anyone use one in their Zed? I would imagine it would also be useful on BMWs which already have the runflat indicator as it will tell you which tyre has lost pressure unlike the BMW system :)

How about adding Puncturesafe as an alternative if your tyres are suitable?

I have thought about that Dave, I may be wrong but heard it doesnt work well on larger wheels over 17"?

I think it's the transverse stiffening ridges that are a problem with some tyres which stops the fluid spreading evenly.
Maybe if you could get a look inside a tyre of the same make and/or contact puncturesafe for advice.
I've just done my new tyres having used it for the last three years, cost £40 of ebay site and easy to DIY.
Tyre fitter was happy to remove old tyres as it's water soluble and he said quite a lot of vehicles particularly light plant are using it.

Thanks for the advice Dave, I might contact Puncturesafe and see what they say and give them details of the tyres on the Zed, they might be able to advise. I just remember when I looked at it before it mentioned it worked best on 16" wheels or less.

TyrePal Arrived today so prompt delivery, nice bit of kit and well made and the unit is reasonably small not to be too intrusive, comes with mounting bracket, lithium batteries and lighter adapter etc. Valve caps are quite large but weigh virtually nothing.

The vehicle image on the unit even looks like a Zed

Fitted TyrePal today after a wash, the Zed not me :)

The pressure monitors come with a locking collar which are a little fiddly to fit as I have very short valve stems but will help prevent sticky fingers nabbing them, each one has a small lithium battery inside which last upto 2 years.

Image

The unit is quite neat although would have preferred a quick release cradle or a better method of mounting the unit lower down by the transmission tunnel. It runs off either 2 AA batteries or via the lighter socket.

lol, there's a small collar with a grub screw that fits over the tyre valve first followed by the valve cap which locks onto the collar once tightened then the grub screw is tightened up which stops the valve cap from being unscrewed.

Well it will soon tell me if not :D

You were right, came out this morning to a virtually flat front tyre :head: :head: so looks like the seal in the cap is duff :x Still it beeped like mad to tell me the tyre had only 12psi lol: Other 3 caps are working fine :|

Ah well seemed a good idea at the time, will contact the company tomorrow.

Called TyrePal today who were pretty reluctant to want to change the cap sensor. Suggested I try it without the locking collar which goes onto the tyre valve first followed by the cap as it might be preventing the cap from seating, I said well as they cost £35 each to replace thats a good solution, then suggested I try another cap that is working OK and then suggested the tyre valve was faulty and not their product to which I replied the valves were fine with no pressure loss before I fitted the product. Anyways will try these suggestions but will have to wait until the weekend as too dark in the evenings now :x I was expecting them to say send the old cap back and we'll replace it :? Not great customer service.

Sorry to ressurect an old thread, but I just read this with interest..
How did the situation end up? Did they replace the faulty item or refund your money?
I would be interested to know if anyone else has had anything to do with aftermarket TPMS systems, & whether they're any good?
