Fuel Tax
Fuel Tax
Yes, I'd be the first to argue that current fuel duty + VAT is way too high, anything that's retail price consists of over 50% in total tax is morally corrupt IMO
Well,... at-least the Chancellor has scrapped the 3p fuel duty rise planned for the new year, not delayed but scrapped - finally some sense and sensibility prevails, now stop snowing so I can have a blast in the M

Think how much more he could have cut it if he didn't shell out £8bn a year of our money in foreign aid & £18bn a year to the EU.

Aye,.. we have no cash surplus of our own but yet we can borrow money to give to others No matter how laudable our intentions it's like me taking out a loan from the bank and declaring I'm going to use it to feed the homeless guy down the roadRobin wrote:Think how much more he could have cut it if he didn't shell out £8bn a year of our money in foreign aid & £18bn a year to the EU.

On the subject of the Euro,... why would leaving the political project stop us being good friends and neighbours to the economic area as a whole or on any bilateral arrangement two parties see fit to put in place. Don't the Swiss and Fins operate that way quite successfully
UKIP (read Nigel Farage) have been the most impressive entity in the political debates I've seen for a fair few years now - even where you don't agree with certain views you can take some comfort in the fact he isn't trying to placate all the time in the snide manner of most politicians.
A couple of interesting sites I bumped into a few years back

Re: Fuel Tax
It's funny (not funny-ha-ha you understand) - our local garage reduced the price to £1.29 a litre the other day and I found myself thinking "oh, that's cheap" for a second, just because it was under £1.30! Cheap? What was I thinking?? How quickly we become acclimatised!

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Re: Fuel Tax
We need more of a tax contribution from electric car owners. When you take into account efficiencies from generating electricity, losses from power lines, charging the batteries, and efficiency of the electric motor itself, the petrol engine is only slightly worse than an electric one (about 20% as apposed to about 25%). And, of course, there's the cost to the envionment of battery replacement after a few years. All those adverts of 'emission free' electric cars should be banned for being misleading (and that includes hydrogen cars).
